There are around 50 international schools in Madrid, with 24 British schools, 14 IB schools in Madrid and many other nationalities are represented including American, French, German, Swedish and Swiss. Many schools are bi, or even tri-lingual and all pupils being educated in Spain will need to learn Spanish as part one of their subjects.
Spain’s capital city of Madrid is the third largest in Europe with a population of 3.3 million. This more than doubles if you include the metropolitan area. In spite of this Madrid is an excellent place to bring up a family if you are moving to Spain. It is a beautiful and surprisingly green city, with tree lined avenues and many parks and playgrounds. Public transport is excellent and Madrid is considered to be very safe and affordable when compared with other major European cities. Like most of Spain, locals are very sociable and welcoming towards children; cafés and restaurants will have all age ranges and unlike a lot of Northern Europe, it's OK for the kids to be heard as well as seen!
Madrid is world renowned for its abundance of art and culture. The city has a vast array of museums, galleries, monuments and interesting architecture including a fully preserved Egyptian temple, a thank you gift from Egypt to Spain.
Salamanca, Retiro and Arturo Soria are considered to be excellent areas to live with families, as is El Viso with its sought after villas. They are all close to the city, yet relatively quiet and with easy access to public transport and Retiro Park. Mirasierra is on the edge of the city but still well served by public transport. There are more houses here as opposed to apartments. These areas are all close to many international schools including Colegio San Patricio, Maxwell, Dallington, Numont and City Country School. The nearby neighbourhood of Conde de Orgaz, has a large French speaking community and is in close proximity to the Lycée Français de Madrid.
Chamberí is a traditional Madrid neighbourhood to the North of the city close to Parque Santander and a wide variety of leisure activities. Puerta de Hierro, with a selection of more modern housing, is a little further out but still with good transport links. Both of these areas are convenient for the American School of Madrid.
La Moraleja is a wealthy suburb to the north east of the city convenient for a number of international schools including St. George Madrid, The Scandinavian School and Liceo Europeo. A car is essential here.

Numont School Madrid was founded in 1962 by Margaret Ann Swanson, whose vision was to provide good, sound British Education for children of all nationalities. Mrs Swanson believed that learning in a multicultural setting provides children with a rich and stimulating environment, which leads to tolerance and understanding.
As the first British School in Madrid we keep such vision for our children's education. Numont has occupied its present location in C/Parma since 1969. It has grown in size since its early days but it still retains a sense of familiarity that has enabled it to remain a friendly environment which offers a broad and varied curriculum. In our premises, we have children from Nursery to Year 7 (2 to 12 years old).
However, after Numont School Madrid there is a variety of other British Schools that our children attend from Year 8. We have an agreement with International School of Madrid, where our children are guaranteed a place in Secondary, as from Year 8.

At City Country School Madrid we believe that the entire mind of the child needs tending to, not just the part that receives information. In fact, we look upon the mind as the heart-mind, because the two cannot be separated, especially in the child. If a school is tending to the heart-minds of its students, then everything done in school must be done with care, thought and respect.
What the child studies and does in school must speak to the reality of his/her experience, it must be wholesome and sustaining to the spirit, it must be nourishing to his/her curiosity, it must feel important and beautiful to know, growing a desire to learn that can be sustained through a lifetime.
The Montessori pedagogy forms the foundation of our practice at City Country School, encompassing the philosophy, the curriculum and the methods of instruction.
