Very bad teachers and staff. Awful heads of school. The only concern is to look good on instagram posts. Results are terrible otherwise

The academic level is low, the school should invest more in teacher training and development or curriculum improvement. Additionally, the school has a high turnover rate for math teachers, which has created real problems for high school levels. Furthermore, the atmosphere is unpleasant, with famous and arrogant families. The school should also consider creating a better environment for music education by hiring more experienced and talented musicians as teachers and providing more resources for music students. Finally, the school is experiencing a sharp decline in academics and well-being, it might be time to review the leadership structure and make changes where necessary. It's possible that the current head of school is not providing the necessary support for the academic and social growth of the students, and a new leader might be able to turn things around. Overall, I do not recommend this school at all.

There is not parent’s association and no real sense of community. Teachers are in general lazy, especially the ones who have been there for more than 20 years. The leadership of the school do not care about parent’s concern. You have no voice. Math education is very deficient. The worst is just really the heads who have no consideration for parents and do not support nor form a partnership with us to improve the kids education.

My daughter (Chelsea Williamson Honors Class 2011) attended ASM from 2008 to 2011 and received a quality education. She also received IB certifications and was accepted to 80% of the colleges she applied to. Thank you, Principals O' Hale & Reykdal, Mrs. K Cullen, Vetrano, Grzywacz for actively mentoring my child providing an excellent educational experience.

I went to the American School of Madrid school for 3 years (Sophomore year of HS through Senior year). These 3 years were extremely traumatic. I experienced rampant bullying for being gay, and the facility were well aware but did not care. Furthermore, the faculty would let the local Spanish kids get away with murder. The Spanish kids were repeatedly cheating on exams, and the faculty was aware and simply looked the other way. The school is an extremely toxic environment, and do not care about the vast majority of the students. They just care about their reputation. They also waste a ton of money on new buildings and technology that no one asks for, simply so the school looks "fancier". In fact, the new glass buildings were often uncomfortable due to their being no space where someone could truly have privacy and peace to do their work.

After spending 7 years at ASM, I can say that I very much have enjoyed my time here. When I first arrived in 6th grade, I found that the environment was extremely welcoming. Moving internationally can be very stressful and my move to Madrid occurred in the middle of the school year. However, the combined efforts of the staff and students helped to make me feel settled in and on track in a short amount of time. I also have found the environment extremely supportive in other regards. Through starting several clubs to voicing any complaints or issues, I have found that the administration has always had my back and done their best to accomadate me to the best of their abilities. In regards to academics, I feel that ASM has definitely been an asset to me. I have had countless college admin tell me how lucky I am to have had access to the IB program through ASM, as it is known to make sure a student is 100% college ready. Before I entered the IB, however, I had time to enjoy the wonderful teachers and courses ASM has employed for middle and upper schoolers. Every grade I felt challenged, but in a way that I felt served to motivate me to learn as much as possible and be the best student I could be. I also noticed that whenever I needed help, I had access to teachers and afterschool help sessions which always did the trick. I also very much appreciate ASM's commitment to modernity. They are constantly working to improve courses, teaching styles, and even the buildings which leads to a very unique and exciting scholastic experience. I know it will be very sad to say farewell to ASM after all these long years and great experiences. I can not wait to see where this school goes next!

The American School of Madrid is a mirage of a good school, rather than a welcoming and safe learning environment. Although at first giving the impression of a modern, clean and effiecient school, the multi million dollar facilities don’t make up for the poor education that students receive. For my first year in high school at ASM, 80% of my teachers were incredibly demotivating, and provided little to no positive learning experiences. In class, many would simply avoid questions, or show visual frustration if they acknowledged them. As well as this, there is little to no coordination between teachers surrounding work loads; I would often spend hours per night doing monotonous, often pointless homework assignments, or leftover class work because of bad planning on the teachers part. Some teachers seemed complete unfit to teach their assigned subjects, at times making offensive, borderline xenophobic remarks. As well as this, the school has a notorious reputation among students as being terrible at dealing with ‘controversies’ and ‘drama.’ The school often employs ineffective or disproportionate punishment to solve situations. I am happy to have recently moved schools; my mood, my work quality and general health has improved drastically. If the school does not listen to the opinions of the students, the future seems quite dark for the lancers.
