How would you rate Hwa Chong International School (HCIS)?
This school is the biggest joke an scam of all time, there is no different between his and a local government school besides the curriculum. Many people are fooled into thinking that HCIS has a "holistic" way of learning and are attracted by the high above average ib scores . What they do not tel you is that many students get kicked out with the only top students remaining to help boost the IB score , unlike other schools where every student is given an opportunity to do IB and hence may have a lower average IB score. If HCIS did not kick out underperforming students, their average IB score would be similar to other schools. Second of all and most importantly, teachers here are terrible, unprofessional , have little to no IB experience and qualification as most are coming from moe school and some even have zero teaching background which is atrocious that they are even allowed to teach IB, the staff turnover rate is very high and many teachers leave halfway throughout the year leading to adjustment issues for many students. Also, the biggest scam is paying over 30K/ year for the school facilities to be worse than schools in a third world country, with the annex building looking like a warn torn zone for years. No improvement whatsoever , wondering where all that money really goes since they can afford to advertise so much but cannot afford to even have a working projector. The way the IB program is conducted here is not different from an moe school and completely defeats the holistic approach of the IB program. There are very limited subject choices, and nothing is International about this school. everyone is either singaporean or mainland Chinese, the caucasian students that the schools use to advertise the diversity are the only ones in the entire school. It is absolutely ridiculous that this school sets so many unnecessary deadlines for Ib such as coursework , Tok and ee submissions etc leading to so much pressure on the students and having the audacity to blame it on Ib when its the schools curriculum!!! Worst still, making things up such as " AR" meaning At Risk , when there is NO such thing in Ib whatsoever. EE mentors here are terrible, misleading and misguiding the students, on one hand, students follow whatever the ee mentors tell them to do and they will tell you its on the right track , then they decide to fail you and tell you everything that's wrong that was not previously mentioned, what kind of nonsense is this? Also, setting so many IA deadlines to so call keep us on the right track but supervisors cannot even be bothered to review the IA until last minute official deadline submission, so the effort and stress students put into doing their IA is being neglected, coming up with excuses such as teachers are too busy is absolutely pathetic, you think IB students are so free? This is the WORST reviewed international school in Singapore and no-one likes it there. DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILDREN HERE!!!!!
I love being in Hwa Chong International! The Friends are great, the facilities and the teachers are really good as well! I managed to get a big group of friends! (7 students)
Hwa Chong international school doesn’t function like a school, but a business, its management employs tricks to cover up scandals and the organisation of events are poor, the only real fault is the school’s management, although its community still mimics that of a normal school, in the end it’s a shame that the higher ups decisions are questionable and archaic
School is a money trap. Everything extra must pay more. CCA, sabbatical programmes, even school camps, all added to fees. There is a portion called “ miscellaneous fees” where its literally charging you for nothing. The extra fees and miscellaneous fees are separate payments. The school fees are also ridiculously high for a school with less facilities than a neighbourhood school. They also make you pay for a shitty “student learning portal” which is used like 3 times a year. Most teachers are alright but some are just inflexible and downright horrible. The building in the photo is the main building, where students will be studying in the last 2 years of their learning journey there. Years 1-4 is spent in the annex building, a far less luxurious building that they dont show you on the orientation. All activities organised by the school seems very low-budget despite all the money they take. They arent even trying to help your child or improve their learning progress. This school needs new management and needs to start caring about its student body.

Hwa Chong International School shares its facilities with its parent school, Hwa Chong Institution. The building is quite new, so the whole experience was quite good for the day.
