How would you rate British International School of Tunis (BIST)?
Small and run-down primary school. Lots of local teachers . High staff turnover.
The school has big potential to be a leader school between all of the International Schools in Tunis but unfortunately the unsustainability of the International teachers cause a problem in covering the academic side which effect the students academic results. On the other hand there's poor communication between the head of managements and the parents in clarify the school strategy and plan for next year. The school is not able to find a good teachers and the ability to keep them for whole academic year.
I think that Mr. Steven, the principal of the secondary school is doing a good job, but I blame the owners who are not investing good money in the school in order to help the academic staff to provide a good education for the students. The parents for the secondary school are paying a tuition for the school. Also, I think that Mrs Kayren is doing a great job at the primary school since she came two years ago. Again I blame the owners, be generous and play a role in providing good funding the teachers of the school. Profits are not everything but the reputation of the school.
The level of teaching and supervision is very good. What I would suggest is that there should be more communication with the parents, so that they have more details about the children's curriculum and progress.
Excellent teaching staff, great community, awesome boutique school tailored for both expat and local families
It's a very good school, the students are thrilled and they have excellent methods!!!
BIST maintains an inclusive curriculum aligned with the UK standards and ensuring that all children receive an excellent education. Pupils are trained to foster critical thinking , responsibility , independence and love for learning . Some of the areas Bist excells is reading, writing and outdoor learning where the children combine their Maths skills , science knowledge and prior knowledge to achieve the learning goals.
Having spent 10 years at BIST, I can confidently say it os a great place, largely due to the exceptional professionalism of our management especially Mrs Karyn. She is highly respected by the entire staff for her supportive leadership style. Under her guidance our s house has thrived, fostering a positive and collaborative atmosphere. Im grateful to be part of such an outstanding institution.
The school has been operating for more than 10 years. It's the 1st school offering the British Curriculum in Tunisia and until today it's the only fully accredited school from the UK standards (COBIS & BSO). Through these 10 years, a lot of managers, directors, heads came and went so different opinions can emerge from different experiences at different times at BIST. What I can say is that currently, as an admin member who has been with the school for 3 years, is that it offers a good working environment to the academic staff so they can offer the best teaching for the kids. The management listens and tries to take feedback and push to be the best school in all aspects despite many hardships. There is a good sense of harmony between locals and expats, pupils are brilliant and smart, the campuses themselves, especially with a lot of renovation in the primary one , offer the best learning opportunities for pupils and a aesthetically pleasing space for staff. There is a lot of outdoor learning areas to accommodate to the PBL and hands on experience for learning that the curriculum is offering. I would definitely recommend BIST for the children for it's academic excellence and for the staff as lovely working place.
I started there as a teaching assistant , but now I'm a qualified teacher. The management saw my potential and trusted my abilities, especially Mrs. Karyn, who has always been supportive. The staff is highly skilled, wonderful, and genuinely cares about the children. The school is excelling in Project-Based Learning (PBL), with an innovative curriculum that makes it truly stand out. What's really exciting is that the school has embraced Project-Based Learning (PBL), a forward-thinking curriculum that focuses on hands-on, real-world learning experiences. The whole environment has transformed, and you can see the impact it's having on the students' engagement and enthusiasm. It's a place where innovative ideas are welcomed, and it's been amazing to be part of a school that's now shining because of it.
