Svenska Skolan i Berlin (Schwedische Schule in Berlin gGmbH), on Landhausstraße in Wilmersdorf, has taught pupils since 1906. Today it is a small non-profit day school of about 40 pupils aged 6 to 12, from förskoleklass (pre-school class) to Year 6, taught in small mixed-age classes. It follows the Swedish national curriculum and the Swedish school calendar, with teachers from Sweden and Norway and a German teacher from Germany, so it only admits pupils who understand Swedish or Norwegian. The school also runs supplementary Swedish classes on Thursday afternoons for children aged 4 to 19 who attend English- or German-speaking schools, and Swedish courses for adults, while the Swedish Victoria parish pre-school is in the same building.

It starts every day with a healthy snack, often prepared by the children, and includes homework help, extra German, choir, play and plenty of time outdoors. The school regularly uses Berlin as a classroom, with outings to museums, galleries, theatres, concert halls and companies, lessons in Wilmersdorf's Volkspark and trips to the city's lakes and forests. My daughter has been attending the Swedish school for 2 years. The school concept and the family atmosphere in this school are simply convincing. As parents, we feel our child's joy in attending school and are happy to have made the right choice. Personal contact with the teaching team is diverse and completely unproblematic as it is possible every day.
