About Carlucci American International School of Lisbon (CAISL)
Carlucci American International School of Lisbon takes seriously the responsibility to ensure that each student is welcomed and valued, and, at the same time, challenged with an academically demanding curriculum. We strive to help students feel accepted and to accept themselves and each other.
We do not want students to get intellectually "comfortable." Academic achievement is not accomplished by those who are comfortable. It is accomplished by those who are always striving and questioning and demanding the best, both of themselves and of those around them. This is the atmosphere we work to create.
Supporting its mission, Carlucci American International School will educate school-aged dependents of the national and international communities residing in the Lisbon area. The multi-cultural, multilingual make-up of the CAISL student body is an asset and a resource for enriching the lives of all students.

Former student there. Back in the day, the guidance counselor was very toxic and inept at their job, they would lose college application papers. When I decided not to attend the graduation ceremony, because I didn't choose to live in Portugal (while a great country, as a student, I felt that I missed out a lot due to my parents deciding to live abroad), she wasn't OK with the decision and worked to harass my friends and family to pressure me into going to the graduation ceremony; their involvement was not normal. They were even calling my friend's parents. Having to deal with this much harassment while living abroad was pretty stressful, I ended up being hospitalized and had to leave the university after a semester. When I contacted the school later, the school principal didn't bother replying at all, while the other school principal said that they had tried to get the counsellor fired for years but it was difficult. They said they wanted to talk to me to apologize but then blocked all contact with me. This school really ruined my life and yet the school principals cannot even offer an apology.
My kids (primary and middle schooler) have had a really positive experience at CAISL. Some things I think sets the school apart is its long history in the area and strong family community. The school seems very organized and the communication has been really clear overall. There are free sports and after school activities offered (as well as paid ones). It's really diverse, not just Europeans but families from all continents. The school facilities are spacious, unlike some international schools where the classrooms seemed very cramped. Primary school art and music are wonderful. My children's teachers have been excellent. They have nice field trips and speakers who come to school. It has exceeded our expectations overall.
They have a great academic thingy and they are good at sports especially this kid named Ayden he has a lot of talent
I have been part of the teaching team of the school for thirteen years. As faculty, we strive to be an example to our students in learning, and adapting to an always changing world, while doing our best.
While the school offers top-notch education and extra-curricular activities, the leadership at the school is totalitarian, and obedience is enforced via fear. Children are taught to work hard and there is a strong emphasis on a multi-cultural environment, however the CAISL model is to get children to conform to authority under all circumstances, and deviation from the norm is shunned. There is little appreciation for variability in children's personality traits, therefore inhibiting the pupils' capacities for self-development, self-confidence, and independence. The students' freedoms have become increasingly restricted in the last 5-7 years, and there is little room for them to develop in their own idiosyncratic ways. Not to mention, tuition is ludicrous and the teachers get criminally underpaid.
Great school! My children loved to study there!
I love everything at that school

Our daughter started attending CAISL in September 2018, so we have some experience with the school. It has impressed us beyond words; the teachers are at the top of their profession, the administrative staff responsive and professional, and the student body diverse and exuding the sort of positive energy that comes from learning day-to-day in such an environment. In our child’s development since joining the school, there is clear evidence of the “hidden curriculum” at work, as her sense of responsibility, consideration and mindfulness evolve over time. For parents, too, there’s a real sense of community, of being connected. So, in a nutshell, we’re very pleased with CAISL!

My family and I are brazillian and moved from USA to Portugal in 2018. For us, it was a blessing to find a school like CAISL! The school is an extension of US schools' method, all the staff is very professional and well prepared, and also the school curriculum is an excellent level. The intercultural exchange is very rich because my children study with children from all over the world, which makes it a priceless experience. For sure, I can notice the dignity, respect and integrity that the school transmits to its students.
