Baleares International College, Sa Porrassa is a British international school set in the Sa Porrassa area of Calvià, in the south-west of Mallorca, offering a British-style international education to boys and girls aged 5 to 18. It is part of Baleares International College, which states that its schools are the only COBIS compliant schools in Mallorca and which is now part of the Ariston Education group. Teaching follows the English National Curriculum from Primary through to Sixth Form, and students sit externally assessed IGCSE and A Level examinations, which the school describes as the gold-standard qualifications for university entry. The school is British owned with British-trained teachers selected from the UK, and employs a large team of specialist language teachers whose mother tongue is the language they teach. Information about the educational stages of the Baleares International College

Sa Porrassa follows the English National Curriculum framework from Primary through to Sixth Form, for students aged 5 to 18. The Primary years cover ages 5 to 11 with a curriculum described as comprehensive, thematic and creative. Secondary covers Key Stage 3 (Years 7 to 9, ages 11 to 14), where all subjects are taught in English, and Key Stage 4 (Years 10 and 11, ages 14 to 16), which leads to the IGCSE examinations taken at the end of Year 11. Sixth Form covers Key Stage 5 (Years 12 and 13, ages 16 to 18), where students normally take three or four full A Level or career-based courses together with PE and PSHE lessons, and may add an Extended Project Qualification. Entry to A Levels is recommended for students with at least five IGCSE passes at grade C or 5 and above, including Mathematics and English.

Information about languages of the Baleares International College

All lessons at Sa Porrassa are delivered in English, and the teaching of languages is described as being at the heart of the curriculum, with a large team of specialist teachers whose mother tongue is the language they teach. All students have the opportunity to learn Spanish, Catalan, German and French, which appear among the Key Stage 3 subjects; at IGCSE all students study Spanish, Spanish nationals are also required to follow Catalan, and German and French are available as optional subjects. The school also offers a specialist language programme for advanced German speakers. A comprehensive English as an Additional Language programme is delivered by highly qualified specialist teachers, with support given in small groups or one to one to students in the early stages of English acquisition. The Baleares International College schools have been awarded the Accreditation by Language for Results by The Bell Foundation in recognition of the quality of their EAL provision.

Students sit externally assessed IGCSE examinations at the end of Year 11, developed by Pearson Edexcel and the University of Cambridge International Examinations, and A Levels or career-based applied qualifications in the Sixth Form. Sixth Form students may also take an Extended Project Qualification and receive help with applications to universities in the UK, Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, the US and elsewhere. Baleares International College states that its schools are the only COBIS compliant schools in Mallorca, and its English as an Additional Language provision is accredited by The Bell Foundation under the Language for Results scheme.

Information about extracurricular activities of the Baleares International College

Students at Sa Porrassa can explore a wide range of extracurricular activities, including sports, drama, music and art, both within the school day and after school. After-school clubs vary from year to year and have included sailing, football, athletics, volleyball, tennis, basketball, jiu jitsu, drama, ballet and ballroom dance, music, chess, robotics, a debating club and a number of academic clubs; swimming is offered as part of the PE curriculum during the summer months. The school has introduced an Activities Afternoon, when students take part in a wide range of enriching activities, and enrichment also includes the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award, Model United Nations, the BIC Dance Team and the International Festival of Dance and Performing Arts. Day trips around the island, including team-building trips and cultural excursions, complement classroom learning, and as part of the Ariston group students can take part in cultural exchange programmes. After-school activities run from 16:00 to 17:00.
