Tashkent International School (TIS) is a not-for-profit, independent, co-educational day school in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, run by a board elected from the parent community. It was founded in 1994 and today serves children of diplomatic families, the international business community and local residents. It was the first school in Uzbekistan authorised to teach the IB curriculum from preschool to Grade 5. TIS is accredited by CIS and NEASC and offers all three IB programmes: the Primary Years Programme from preschool to Grade 5, the Middle Years Programme for Grades 6 to 10, and the Diploma Programme in Grades 11 and 12; students can also earn an accredited U.S. high school diploma. English is the language of instruction and every student learns an additional language. The community includes more than 50 nationalities, more than 80% of students are international and no single nationality makes up more than 20% of the roll. Class sizes average about 12 in preschool, 14-15 in elementary and up to 19 in secondary. The school is known locally as 'the Park' because of its 13-acre wooded campus, about 10 minutes from the city centre, with mature trees, gardens and a pond. TIS is a member of CEESA and a founding member of CAFA, the Central Asian federation for athletics, arts and activities, and it runs an outdoor Adventure Program and a scholarship for talented Uzbek students entering Grade 10.

Great place

A really nice school in a surprisingly nice city. The campus is rather large, and has a shady park. A mix of old and new buildings, with more new buildings on the way. In the time I've been here, a new Art and Design building, elementary school, and second gym have opened.
