Eton College is an independent boys' boarding school in Windsor, United Kingdom. Henry VI founded it in 1440 for seventy King's Scholars, a body that still exists nearly six centuries later. Boys join at 13 and stay through to the sixth form, living in boarding houses each run by a house master with a dame and a deputy. The college states that its aim is to bring out the best in young people's abilities so that they can thrive and contribute to the lives of others over a healthy and fulfilling life, and that its ethos favours creativity, individuality and innovation. Alongside lessons, more than eighty societies put on lectures, workshops and seminars, and the school runs partnership work with state-sector pupils through its Eton Connect programme, its museums and collections and its online EtonX courses.
