Sharjah American International School (SAIS) opened in Sharjah in 1997 and is the founding campus of the SAIS group, which later added schools in Dubai, Umm Al Quwain and Abu Dhabi. It teaches an American curriculum from KG1 to Grade 12, based on the Common Core State Standards for English and mathematics and the Next Generation Science Standards, and modelled on the California state framework. Kindergarten (KG1 and KG2) is inquiry-based, the elementary section covers Grades 1 to 4, and older students add electives in computing, the arts and foreign languages to their core subjects. From Grade 10 every student works with a school laptop as part of an e-learning programme, and graduates continue to universities in the UAE, North America and Britain.
