Educational principles
Arbor presents itself as a school on the British curriculum with an ecological approach, and says its purpose is to tie what pupils study to the natural world around them. Alongside the academic core it asks for inquiry, hands-on work and problems taken from outside the classroom, and pupils are pushed to frame questions, weigh up evidence and think about the ways their studies might change something for the better. Teaching by subject is joined by projects across disciplines, fieldwork, service learning and research, and the living classrooms put pupils in direct contact with plants and animals.

Attention to Diversity at The Arbor School
Educational Psychologist
Gifted and talented
Information about the curricular adaptation of the The Arbor School
Barriers to learning are identified by qualified staff, who are backed by an educational psychologist based at the school. From there pupils may be given targeted interventions, the use of sensory spaces and assistive technology. Pupils who are highly able, including those described as twice exceptional, are put on personalised routes, and the school's links with outside businesses bring them mentoring and curriculum enrichment in the workplace. Parents are supported through workshops and information sessions each month, and specialist teachers cover social communication. Pupils learning English follow a language-based programme of activities, with workshops both on the campus and away from it, and their language acquisition is followed through a separate tracking system.

Information about the facilities of the The Arbor School
The campus is organised around climate-controlled biodomes and learning gardens, with libraries, science laboratories and specialist learning spaces, an auditorium and performance areas, sports facilities including swimming pools and outdoor play spaces, and dedicated areas for creative, technical and vocational work. The main building houses an organic farm-to-fork canteen, a theatre presentation area, a sixth form common room, a wellbeing platform, counselling spaces and a clinic. The Biofarm has a seed propagation centre, outdoor growing beds, a purpose-built greenhouse with vertical trellising and further small growing domes, and cooking classes are sometimes held on a shaded learning patio in the garden. Sixth form spaces double as places to study, socialise, present and display work produced in the atelier.
