The American International School in Abu Dhabi (AISA) is a private international school on Airport Road in Abu Dhabi, founded in 1995 and operated since then by Esol Education, a group that runs ten schools in the Middle East, Europe and East Asia. It serves more than 1,300 students from KG1 (age 4) to Grade 12, drawn from over 75 nationalities, and most teachers come from North America. AISA combines American curriculum standards with International Baccalaureate programmes: all children from KG1 to Grade 5 follow the IB Primary Years Programme, Grades 6 to 12 follow an American curriculum aligned with Common Core, NGSS and AERO standards and lead to an American diploma, and students may opt for the IB Diploma Programme in Grades 11 and 12. The school says it was the first in the UAE to offer the IB Diploma and the first in Abu Dhabi authorized for the PYP. It has been accredited by the Middle States Association since 1997 and by CIS since 2010, is licensed by the UAE Ministry of Education and was rated Good by ADEK. Elementary classes are coeducational, while the Secondary School is gender-segregated in line with local regulations. Arabic is taught to all students.

AISA covers KG1 to Grade 12 in three divisions. The Elementary School (KG1 to Grade 5) follows the IB Primary Years Programme with daily Arabic and weekly specials in art, music, PE and technology. Middle School (Grades 6-8) and High School (Grades 9-12) follow an American standards-based curriculum, with French, Spanish, drama and other electives. From Grade 11 students choose between the American diploma track and the IB Diploma Programme.

English is the language of instruction. An English Language Learning program supports students in KG to Grade 5 who are new to English, while applicants to Grades 6-12 need at least intermediate English. Arabic is compulsory for all students every day, taught to native speakers under the Ministry of Education curriculum and as an additional language for international students, with Islamic Studies and Arabic social studies for Muslim pupils. French and Spanish are offered in Middle and High School from beginner to advanced and IB level.

The AISA Lions athletics program, active for more than 29 years, fields Under-14, junior varsity and varsity teams in football, tennis, golf, basketball, volleyball, track and field, cross-country, badminton and swimming. Teams compete in four conferences: JEAC for Grades 4-6, EAC for American schools in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, NESAC across the Middle East and North Africa, and GAAC. After-school activities cover STEM, coding, robotics, music, dance, creative arts, wellness and service, and students can join Model United Nations, science clubs, drama and student council. Campus Recreation also hosts intramurals and paid classes from external providers.

A school bus service is available for an annual fee, coordinated by the school's transport office. Lunch and snacks are provided by Novotel Abu Dhabi Al Bustan through a canteen and a kiosk, following a healthy, nut-aware food policy. A school uniform is required and can be ordered online.
