The American Community School of Abu Dhabi (ACS) is a non-profit, coeducational college preparatory school offering an American, standards-based education from KG1 (age 4) to Grade 12. Its roots go back to 1969, when a small school opened in Al Bateen for families linked to the U.S. Embassy and oil companies; it became an independent school with an elected board in 1972. After about 50 years in Al Bateen, ACS moved in January 2024 to a new six-hectare campus in the Saadiyat Marina District on Saadiyat Island, close to NYU Abu Dhabi, roughly double the size of the previous site. The school reports around 1,315 students from more than 80 countries and a student to faculty ratio of 9 to 1. Its program is built on four pillars: academics, the arts, athletics and service learning, with service expected of students at every grade level. In Grades 11 and 12 students can choose the IB Diploma Programme, Advanced Placement courses or ACS high school courses. ACS is accredited by the Middle States Association and CIS, is a NESA member, holds its licence from the UAE education authorities and helped found the MESAC athletic conference. It is also developing an Arabic Institute of Excellence.
