The Overseas School of Colombo, known as OSC, is a private international day school at Battaramulla on the eastern edge of Colombo, Sri Lanka. It dates from 1957 and describes itself as the only school in the country authorised to run every International Baccalaureate programme, from Early Years and the Primary Years Programme through the Middle Years Programme to the Diploma, which it has taught since 1983. Children are admitted from the age of three and continue as far as Grade 12; families come from over forty nationalities. Classes are kept to around twenty students, and accreditation comes from the Middle States Association and the Council of International Schools on top of the IB authorisation. There is no boarding and no uniform. The campus offers a swimming pool, a library of more than twelve thousand books, an auditorium, an art studio, permaculture gardens and a climbing wall, and a paid bus service is available.

Information about languages of the The Overseas School of Colombo

English is the working language of every classroom, and applicants are expected either to have or to reach a workable command of it. An EAL support programme runs across Primary and Middle School, with much thinner provision afterwards. At Diploma level the additional languages on offer are French, including an ab initio course, and Spanish. The school reports that twelve languages are studied by its students, whether as home languages or as extra ones, and after-school clubs add French, Spanish, Chinese culture and Sinhala storytelling.

OSC is authorised for the whole IB sequence. The Primary Years Programme reaches from pre-kindergarten to Grade 5, the Middle Years Programme spans Grades 6 to 10, and the two-year Diploma occupies Grades 11 and 12, having been offered here since 1983. Admission to the Diploma is deliberately open rather than selective: any student who wants the challenge is supported through it. Students who take DP courses without sitting the full Diploma can still qualify for the school's own high school diploma, which is credentialed in the United States by the Middle States Association.
