The Escuela Suiza de Barcelona (ESB) is a secular international school in the centre of Barcelona with more than 100 years of history. It guarantees children and young people from 3 to 18 years a demanding, high-level education while promoting cultural diversity, basing its educational approach on the quality and values of Swiss pedagogy, in which Swiss, Spanish and Catalan cultures coexist harmoniously. It is characterised by plurilingual teaching in five languages, by an emphasis on empowering its pupils and stimulating their critical sense, and by a family atmosphere and warm treatment. Its central location allows easy access on foot.

Information about the educational stages of the Escuela Suiza

ESB offers Infantil, Primaria, Secundaria and Bachillerato. In the early years, fine motor skills and communicative competence in German are of vital importance. Pupils begin literacy immersion in German in the first class of Primary, and in Secondary two new languages, English and French, are introduced while pupils' autonomy is fostered. The school day runs from 9.20 to 16.35 from P3 to the 4th class and from 8.35 to 16.35 from the 5th to the 12th class, with wraparound care available from 8.00 to 18.00. Its leaving qualification opens the way to study and live in Switzerland and to universities anywhere in the world.

Information about languages of the Escuela Suiza

Pupils at ESB learn a total of five languages: German, the school's main language of instruction, together with Spanish, Catalan, English and French. German is the vehicular language of the school and remains so up to the 12th class, with immersion from P3 to P5. Spanish is introduced from the first class and Catalan from the third class. English and French are introduced in Secondary. Each teacher speaks in their own language, and pupils gradually incorporate the languages into their daily lives until they obtain the corresponding diplomas.
