Colegio CEDES is the only private school in the city and province of Albacete, and it has been teaching since 1932, when its founder Carlos Tercero González began preparing a handful of students for the Commercial Studies entrance examinations. Today it is run by the third generation of the same family on a 20,000 m2 site on Carretera de las Peñas, offering private education from the first cycle of Early Years, with groups of 1 and 2 year olds, through to Bachillerato. Teaching follows the Spanish national curriculum, widened and reinforced with an immersive bilingual model in which 50% of the timetable in Primary is delivered in English by native and bilingual teachers. The school's approach rests on enquiry-based learning, the theory of multiple intelligences, the Singapore Method in mathematics, the Suzuki Method in music and a dedicated emotional intelligence programme. With small class sizes, a close teaching staff and many teachers who were once CEDES pupils, the school aims to be a genuinely family environment where every student feels valued, supported and cared for.

Educational principles

CEDES bases its educational project on the theory of multiple intelligences, understanding that every child has unique talents to be nurtured from birth, and on enquiry as the thread running through every stage. Mathematics is taught with the Singapore Method, moving from concrete to pictorial to abstract so that pupils understand deeply rather than memorise; literacy is developed through the Ludiletras creative programme; and music follows the Suzuki Method together with Music Mind Games for music theory. Cooperative learning and project-based learning organise classroom work around shared goals and cross-curricular questions. A dedicated emotional intelligence programme gives pupils tools to recognise, understand and manage their own emotions and those of others, and a social skills programme develops empathy, cooperation and respect for difference. Pastoral support is central in Secondary, with tutors accompanying pupils and families, and a public speaking and debating programme develops argumentation and critical thinking.

Information about the educational stages of the Colegio CEDES

Provision runs from the first cycle of Early Years to Bachillerato. Groups of 1 and 2 year olds follow a neurological stimulation programme with flexible hours from a four-hour daily core. In Early Years the focus is early stimulation through play and enquiry, with a symbolic play classroom, a psychomotricity room, native English teachers and a music project built on piano, violin and music theory. In Primary, enquiry continues through project-based learning and immersive bilingualism, with 50% of the curriculum in English and pupils reaching at least A2, and some B1, by the end of the stage. Secondary offers a bilingual pathway with 40% of the curriculum in English and a non-bilingual pathway for pupils joining at that stage, with optional subjects and preparation for official Cambridge examinations, most pupils finishing with a B2 and some with a C2. Bachillerato is dedicated to preparing the Spanish university entrance examination (PAU), with Sciences and Technology, Humanities and Social Sciences, and General tracks.

Languages and International Programs at Colegio CEDES

Spanish Spanish (Instructional)
English English (Instructional)
French French (Half)

Information about languages of the Colegio CEDES

English is the vehicular language of teaching at CEDES and 50% of pupils' timetable is in English. The bilingual model is based on social interaction and immersion in every area of school life, and on separating the languages by teacher and by subject: the English teachers, mostly native speakers, speak only English in the playground, the corridors and even outside school. Native English teachers work with children from their earliest years, before they speak their mother tongue, so that English is acquired as a second native language. In Primary, 50% of the curriculum is in English and pupils reach at least A2 by the end of the stage; in Secondary the bilingual pathway keeps 40% of the curriculum in English, with dedicated classes preparing official Cambridge examinations, and most pupils leave with a B2 while some reach C2. French is available as an optional subject in Secondary and Bachillerato and also as an extracurricular class.

Information about international degrees and programmes of the Colegio CEDES

CEDES teaches the Spanish national curriculum, and its international dimension is built on the Cambridge programme. From Early Years to Bachillerato, mastery of English is one of the school's main objectives, and it uses a communicative approach with active methodologies to develop the skills certified by Cambridge English qualifications; the school works with official examination centres so that pupils can obtain Cambridge certificates from Young Learners (pre-A1) up to C2. In Secondary, dedicated classes prepare pupils for official Cambridge examinations, with most finishing the stage at B2 of the Common European Framework and some at C2. Cambridge examination preparation is also offered as a specialist extracurricular programme.
