The British International School of Ljubljana (BISL) offers a traditional British education in Slovenia for students aged 3 to 18, following the English National Curriculum through to IGCSE and A Level. The school welcomes students from more than 40 countries, giving it one of the most varied international student bodies in Slovenia and making English the common language spoken throughout the school by students and staff alike. Rated Outstanding in every category by its BSO inspection, BISL is an accredited member of COBIS, a CIS member school and holds an 'Exemplary' Bell Foundation accreditation for its English as an Additional Language provision. The school is located on a single site just outside the city centre, in Ljubljana's Črnuče district, where a woodland area and a newly renovated playground support outdoor learning and play. Its personalised approach and House system are designed to help every child exceed their expected potential within a supportive, inclusive community.

Educational principles
The school's ethos is to instil a passion for learning within a uniquely international setting, striving to create a positive, safe and nurturing environment in which everyone is valued as an individual. BISL believes a child can only reach their full potential in an environment which identifies and develops their individual learning needs, and its curriculum aims to create practical, creative problem-solvers who are aware of differing points of view. Fully qualified teachers, selected for their experience, excellence and dedication, work with a low teacher to student ratio so that each student gets the attention they need. The school promotes intercultural understanding and respect, not as an alternative to a sense of national identity but as an essential part of life in the 21st century, and its House system, built around four Houses, supports a positive and inclusive culture across all ages.
School values
BISL's values guide the school every day: Excellence, Respect, Responsibility, Integrity and Compassion. Excellence means being ambitious and developing resilience, independence and a lifelong love of learning, while Respect means celebrating diversity and encouraging respect for people and the world around us. Responsibility means being engaged and promoting actions and behaviours that support a sustainable future. Integrity means being transparent, honest and ethical in all relationships, and Compassion means being kind and caring, encouraging everyone to succeed. The school's BSO inspection found that its provision for students' spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is outstanding.

Poor way of dealing with Coronavirus, too many staff in the same space at once. limited social distancing and not enough spaces in the school to keep numbers low in primary.

Unfortunately this school has a great website with nothing to show for it. Half the teachers are unqualified and the other half are exceptional but are not free to do their job with poor facilities and little spending, recently I saw a facebook post with the current head teacher standing in front of a bird box which was the entire post! I'm not spending £20,000 on a school for a bird box! The new head teacher has some strange ideas about the running of the school and if you look at the website he offers monthly 'coffees with the principal' but this ...

Half the teachers are unqualified and the other half are exceptional but are not free to do their job with poor facilities and little spending, recently I saw a facebook post with the current head teacher standing in front of a bird box which was the entire post! I'm not spending £20,000 on a school for a bird box! The new head teacher has some strange ideas about the running of the school and if you look at the website he offers monthly 'coffees with the principal' but this is meerly time for him to talk about himself- he listens but doesn't 'hear' you. There is very low teacher retention, more so than the average school and in some cases no classes at all. My daughter wants to study to become a doctor and this has been put in jeopardy due to the lack of science teachers for most of the winter. There are other options for our children in Ljubljana and whilst other independent schools are small they can be no worse than this display of greed and arrogance.
