Colégio Planalto is a private all-boys school in Lisbon (Rua Armindo Rodrigues, 28), part of the Colégios Fomento network. It began operations on 9 October 1978 with the goal of helping parents educate their children in line with a Christian perspective. It offers personalised education based on the central role of the 'precetor' (mentor) and on human formation, that is, the personal improvement of its students through a solid intellectual, cultural and artistic training combined with rigorous academic preparation. It has been an IB World School for the Diploma Programme since the IBO recognised it in 1992 (school code 000757).

Educational principles

Personalised educational project of Christian inspiration (Colégios Fomento network). It is built on the central role of the 'precetor' — a mentor providing individual guidance — and on human formation as a permanent objective. It combines solid intellectual, cultural and artistic training with rigorous academic preparation. Spiritual formation is structured through the 'Tempo para Todos / Tempo para Nós / Tempo para Deus / Tempo para Outros' programme and through the Chaplaincy. The school has a Psycho-pedagogical Support Office and initiatives such as 'Pais Protagonistas' (Parents at the Forefront) and the 'Family Support Office'.

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBO). Colégio Planalto was recognised by the IBO in 1992 to deliver the IB. The programme pursues three major aims: acquisition of a broad general culture as intellectual tools for a future university career; development of a high degree of autonomy in acquiring knowledge and in critical analysis and reflection; awareness of cultures different from one's own. In Portugal the IB DP is equivalent to the conclusion of secondary education (Portarias nº 779/98 and 433/2005 of 19 April) and grants access to all universities. Leading universities such as Cambridge, Harvard, Heidelberg, McGill, Oxford, Princeton, Sorbonne, UBC and Yale recognise the IB Diploma as a benchmark.
