Information about the educational stages of the Optimist International School

Optimist International School (OIS) in Hoofddorp's Floriande district, close to Amsterdam, Schiphol and Haarlem, is a publicly funded international primary school offering education in English within a Dutch context, with small classes. Its International Programme runs from Group 1 to Group 7 and prepares pupils for international secondary education from age 11, following the International Early Years Curriculum (IEYC) and the International Primary Curriculum (IPC), with the British National Curriculum for language and mathematics. Admission follows the Dutch criteria for international families. From August 2026 the school is part of Optimist International Academy, together with an international secondary department hosted in the Haarlemmermeer Lyceum Tweetalig building.

Information about languages of the Optimist International School

English is the language of instruction, and pupils who are beginners in English receive EAL support from assistants within their regular lessons. In the International Programme about 15% of learning is in Dutch, with a differentiated Dutch as an Additional Language programme from beginner to advanced level. Pupils who will continue in Dutch secondary education can join the Dutch Enrichment Programme in Groups 6 to 8, which gradually adds academic Dutch. Families are encouraged to keep developing their children's mother tongue.

Information about the services offered by the Optimist International School

School runs from 8:00 to 14:30, Monday to Friday. The tuition fee covers lunchtime supervision, field trips, activities and excursions, and Group 7 pupils go on a compulsory school camp. Bilingual after-school care for ages 4 to 13 is provided on site by UniKidz, with sport, creative and wellbeing activities, and families are also directed to free afternoon sport sessions run by Team Sportservice Haarlemmermeer.

Optimist international school has a very good curriculum from the group1. Teachers are very friendly and encourage the kids in all activities they perform. We are very happy as my kid loves to go to school. Transportation facilities are also good towards the school.

Optimist International School is a great place for kids. The educational methods used here are engaging for kids. Kids love to go to school day after day with more enthusiasm. It's well connected to public transport, All the teaching staff are friendly and helpful to answer any of the parent's questions. They provide apt feedback in parent-teacher meetings. New International School in Hoofddorp. Easily accessible by Public transport. They are growing and improving a lot every day, which is highly appreciable. Kudos for doing so much hard work to start from scratch. School is really working hard to help the kids to learn and make them the best. Keep up the good work. Optimist International school is a truly International in nature by having kids belongs to different culture speaks different language and came from different continental i.e. from Asia, Europe, USA etc. but all are studying , playing and having fun together like pearls in a beautiful necklace of Optimist International School.
