American United School of Kuwait (AUS) is a private, co-educational American school in Sabah Al Salem (Block 1, Street 101), established in 2013 to offer an American education in English to Kuwaiti and international families. It enrols more than 1,200 students from Pre-K (age 4) to Grade 12, with around 189 teachers and students from over 45 nationalities; according to its high school profile, about 65% are Kuwaiti and 14% American. The school is governed by a Board of Trustees that includes parent and US Embassy representatives, and it works with an active parent-teacher-student organisation. The curriculum follows US standards throughout: Common Core for English and mathematics, the Next Generation Science Standards and the C3 framework for social studies. The elementary school (Pre-K to Grade 5) builds literacy on the Science of Reading, the middle school (Grades 6-8) adds a wide range of electives, and the high school (Grades 9-12) offers more than 20 AP courses, Pre-AP classes, the AP Capstone Diploma and over 50 electives, with three diploma tracks. AUS holds dual accreditation from the Council of International Schools (CIS) and the Middle States Association (MSA), first awarded in 2018 and renewed in 2025. Distinctive features include a Culinary Arts Suite, a multimedia and video production lab, STEAM and design labs, a 1:1 device programme, an after-school club programme, a gymnastics academy and a Real Madrid Foundation football programme.

AUS is organised into three divisions. The elementary school runs from Pre-K to Grade 5: the two-year early childhood programme (Pre-K from age 4 and Kindergarten) is play-based and exploratory, while Grades 1-5 follow Common Core, NGSS and C3 standards with art, music, PE, STEAM and electives. The middle school (Grades 6-8) adds electives such as robotics, coding, drama and design technology. The high school (Grades 9-12) offers AP and Pre-AP courses, over 50 electives and three diploma tracks. AUS does not offer a nursery for under-fours.

English is the main language of instruction at AUS from Pre-K onward, and English Language Learning (ELL) staff support students who are still acquiring academic English. Arabic is taught by an Arabic department, and non-Arab students can take Arabic as a Foreign Language (AFL); students with an Arab nationality need a Ministry waiver to join AFL. French and Spanish are taught as world languages in the middle and high school, and AP Spanish is available.

Its high school programme is built on Common Core, NGSS and C3 standards and leads to one of three diploma tracks: Traditional, Honors and Distinguished, which differ in credits, number of advanced courses and minimum GPA. The school lists more than 20 Advanced Placement courses and nine Pre-AP classes, as well as the College Board's AP Capstone Diploma. After-school life combines several programmes. The R.E.A.L. (Recreation, Enrichment and Learning) clubs run in ten-week sessions from 3:15 to 4:15 pm, with a free afternoon snack. The school also hosts the AUS Gymnastics Academy, led by coaches specialised in artistic gymnastics, and a Real Madrid Foundation football programme. AUS lists around 55 sports teams; varsity and junior varsity teams compete against other Kuwaiti schools in volleyball, soccer, badminton and basketball. Middle and high school students can join MUN, speech and debate, drama, music, Student Council, the National Honor Society and school publications.

AUS runs a bus service to many areas of Kuwait, with annual fees for one-way or two-way routes. The clinic's nurses keep medical files, handle daily care and emergencies, run vaccinations with the Ministry of Health, and coordinate allergy needs with the chef; meals are prepared on site, pork-free and without fried food. Student Support Services include ELL support, limited exceptional learning support (remedial help and in-class co-teaching) and counseling, and a College and Career Counseling department uses MaiaLearning. Kindergarten classrooms have child-sized bathrooms and kitchens and large wooden play structures, and outdoor 'pocket playgrounds' include tricycles, balance bikes and gardens.
