Al-Bayan International School, or BIS, is a private non-profit school in Hawally, Kuwait, on Beirut Street behind Dar Al-Shifa Hospital. It teaches boys and girls together from KG1 through Grade 12 on an American programme built around the AERO standards backed by the US State Department's Office of Overseas Schools, with English carrying every subject apart from Arabic and Islamic Studies. Classes are deliberately small, capped at eighteen pupils, and an inclusion department with resource rooms, an educational psychologist, counsellors and a speech and language pathologist supports learners who need it. The school began life in 1993 as Fawzia Sultan International School, a pioneer in Kuwait for children with learning differences, and reopened under its present name in a refurbished building in autumn 2017. It belongs to FAWSEC Educational Company, the same non-profit owner as Al-Bayan Bilingual School. Facilities include computer labs, a library, an indoor gym and fitness area, a multi-purpose hall doubling as a second gym, science labs, art and music rooms, a cafeteria, a garden and three outdoor play areas.

School values

The school sets out to build a supportive and diverse community in which each learner is encouraged to grow, reach their potential and contribute to the wider world. Four short values guide daily life: be kind, be brave, be strong and be you. BIS describes its ideal learner as a curious thinker, an active participant, a compassionate citizen and a lifelong learner. It also places weight on personalised learning, wellbeing and partnership with families, and stresses that, as a non-profit school, educational choices are not driven by commercial interests.
