Almaty International School (AIS) is a non-profit, English-medium international school founded in 1993 by Quality Schools International (QSI), a network of schools established in 1971. It occupies a campus of more than seven hectares in the Kalkaman-2 micro-district of Almaty's Nauryzbay District, with several purpose-built buildings extended in 2017. AIS teaches children from the three-year-old preschool class through Secondary IV (US Grade 12); its 2026-27 school profile reports 466 students of 29 nationalities, from diplomatic, business and local Kazakhstani families. The school uses the QSI mastery-learning model, in which each student works at the right level and is given time and support to master every unit, and it teaches the seven QSI Success Orientations as part of daily life. Its American college-preparatory curriculum leads to QSI diplomas, and a broad Advanced Placement programme, including the AP Capstone Diploma, is offered on site and online. AIS is accredited by the Middle States Association (MSA), affiliated with the US State Department Office of Overseas Schools, and competes in the local COASH league, the Central Asian CAFA federation and CEESA events. AIS is organised into four sections. The preschool welcomes three- and four-year-olds (half-day or full-day) for literacy, numeracy and specialist classes. Elementary covers the 5- to 11-year-old classes. Middle school serves students aged 11 to 13 and allows strong mathematicians to start secondary Algebra. The secondary school (Secondary I-IV, equivalent to Grades 9-12) prepares students for university entry around the world and offers AP courses and diplomas.

English is the language of instruction, and students who need to strengthen it attend Intensive English classes; an Intensive English summer camp is also available. AIS competes in the Confederation of Almaty Schools and Head Teachers (COASH), the Central Asia Federation of Athletics, Activities and Arts (CAFA) and CEESA events. Teams play soccer, basketball and volleyball in several age divisions, and there are cross-country and track and field squads. The wider programme has included badminton, table tennis and swimming, as well as chess, dance, art, robotics, speech and debate, Model United Nations, MathCounts, yearbook, Student Council, the National Honor Society and service clubs such as Roots and Shoots. Students can use a bus service run with a local operator, with seat belts, GPS tracking and a school bus monitor, for an annual fee. The campus covers more than seven hectares and includes over 65 classrooms. It has a two-storey library with more than 19,000 books, its own computer lab and a makerspace, plus two further computer labs, portable laptop and iPad carts, and three science laboratories. There are two art rooms and music rooms for choir and band. For sport, students use separate elementary and secondary gymnasiums, a fitness room, a soccer field with a running track, a mini pitch and an outdoor basketball court; a multi-purpose room and playgrounds complete the facilities.
