Educational principles

Teaching is delivered by Italian and English mother-tongue teachers, each speaking only their own language to the children, in a 'learning by doing' environment adapted to each child's multiple intelligences. Art, music, physical education and drama are treated as valuable as the core subjects, and the school motto 'Rise & Shine' reflects its aim of helping every child reach their personal best. The campus sits between the pinewood and the sea and has eight classrooms and gardens with a soft play area, two lawns, a paved playground and a terrace.

Information about the educational stages of the Ostia International School

Ostia International School is a bilingual English-Italian school running from Nursery (age 3) to Year 6 (age 11), with an English Club that extends English study into Years 7 to 9. Nursery and Reception follow the UK Early Years Foundation Stage and, like Year 1, are taught entirely in English to build a solid base before the bilingual programme. From Year 2 the primary school combines the English National Curriculum with the Italian state curriculum, with English as the dominant language in the first years (60/40) and a 45/55 balance in the last three years.
