Bali Island School (BIS) is a private, non-profit, co-educational day school in Sanur, Denpasar, on the Indonesian island of Bali. It opened in 1986 as Bali International School, run by a parent foundation (Yayasan Bali International School), and took its current name in 2014 when Indonesian regulations required international schools to rename themselves. The school still occupies its original campus in Banjar Taman, Sanur. BIS serves around 350 students from Preschool (age 3) to Grade 12, with a broadly international student body in which Asian and European families are the largest groups. It is an IB World School offering the full IB continuum: the Primary Years Programme from Preschool to Grade 5, the Middle Years Programme in Grades 6 to 10 and the Diploma Programme in Grades 11 and 12. BIS is accredited by WASC and the Council of International Schools, is recognised by the Indonesian Ministry of Education as an SPK (cooperation) school that combines the IB with national requirements, and is a member of EARCOS. Around 48 teachers, most of them expatriates, work alongside Indonesian teaching partners, and secondary classes are small. Students take part in regional competitions through BSSA and IISSAC, and the campus has an open, Balinese-style layout with a 25-metre pool and sports fields.
