The American School of Bombay is an independent, co-educational day school in Mumbai that teaches children from Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12 across two nearby sites: an elementary campus at Kohinoor City in Kurla and a secondary campus in the Bandra-Kurla Complex, fifteen minutes apart. It opened in 1981 with a dozen pupils in a room at the American Consulate, moved to the purpose-built Bandra-Kurla building in 1998 and added the second campus in 2012. Together the two buildings cover more than 200,000 square feet and hold heated indoor pools, five science laboratories, art and music studios, a black box theatre, maker spaces, climbing walls, tennis and basketball courts, a soccer field ringed by an all-weather track and decentralised library spaces. The youngest classes work within the IB Primary Years Programme up to Grade 5, middle and lower high school follow a United States curriculum accredited by the Middle States Association since 1992, and sixth-formers may take the IB Diploma, run here since 1998, individual IB certificates, an ASB diploma, or a mixture. Pupils come from close to fifty different countries. Support staff include a school psychologist, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, counsellors in every division, nurses and a visiting pediatrician, plus a programme for highly able learners. Sport, arts and service run alongside the timetable, with more than five hundred co-curricular sign-ups a year in the top four grades alone.

The school runs on two campuses. The Elementary Campus serves Pre-Kindergarten (PK3 and PK4, from age 3), Kindergarten and Grades 1 to 5, following the IB Primary Years Programme, with a FLEX taster in Spanish, Hindi, French or Mandarin. The Secondary Campus houses the Middle School (Grades 6 to 8, ages 11 to 14), taught against AERO and US standards with French or Spanish, and the High School (Grades 9 to 12), where Grades 9 and 10 prepare students for either the ASB high school diploma, the full IB Diploma or the ASB diploma combined with IB certificates.

Lessons at ASB are taught in English, which is also a core subject at every grade level, and the school runs a separate English as an Additional Language programme. Younger pupils meet a second language twice a week in small groups through a Foreign Language Experience scheme, choosing between Spanish, Hindi, French and Mandarin, with the option of switching language each year. From Grade 6 onwards the world language choice narrows to French or Spanish, and in the IB Diploma the language acquisition group offers Spanish, French or a self-taught language.

ASB has taught the International Baccalaureate since 1998 and is accredited by the Middle States Association, which it joined in 1992; it also belongs to NESA and the Council of International Schools. The Primary Years Programme frames learning for every child from Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 5, and in the last two years of school pupils can work towards the full IB Diploma or take individual IB certificates alongside the school's own diploma. Of the 37 leavers in the class of 2024, 34 sat the Diploma and 29 earned it, averaging 34 points with a top mark of 41 and one bilingual Diploma. Diploma subject groups on offer include English language and literature, Spanish or French acquisition, history, psychology or economics, four sciences, two mathematics routes and visual arts, theatre or music.

ASB describes a limitless education beyond lessons, organised as co-curricular activities, holiday programmes and student- and staff-led clubs, with more than 500 sign-ups a year in the high school alone. Teams compete in badminton, basketball, soccer, swimming, tennis, track and field and volleyball, with middle schoolers also playing table tennis; the school belongs to SAISA and to ASIAC with the American schools in Delhi and Chennai. Other options include student council, Model United Nations, robotics, quiz bowl and clubs from maths to dance. Musicians join AMIS choir and band or the jazz band, actors take part in ISTA, Flash Theater and two plays a year.

Student support is broad. A school psychologist, learning coaches, reading, science and language specialists, EAL teachers, speech and language therapy from age 3 and occupational therapy up to Grade 8 work within a tiered model, and a High Ability programme serves gifted and twice-exceptional learners. Counsellors in each division lead social-emotional learning and college planning. The health office is staffed by nurses, with a paediatrician and a physician on campus once a week and a defibrillator on each site. A Parent Community Association helps new families settle.

ASB's two purpose-built campuses, about 15 minutes apart, cover more than 200,000 square feet. The elementary campus in Kohinoor City has a science lab, a heated pool, a climbing wall, a cricket pitch, a health clinic, a multi-purpose hall, art and music studios and two playgrounds. The secondary campus in the Bandra-Kurla Complex offers five science labs, two art studios, a black box theatre, band and choir rooms, music and drama studios and a makerspace around an atrium cafe.
