The International School of Iceland (ISI) is a small, private, not-for-profit international school in Garðabær, part of the Greater Reykjavík area. It was founded in 2004 to serve the business and diplomatic community and has since also become a choice for local families. The school teaches children in Grades 1 to 10, roughly ages 6 to 16. In the primary years it runs two streams: an English Enrichment Stream for families posted to Iceland for a limited time, such as diplomats, company employees and visiting scholars, and a bilingual Icelandic Enrichment Stream for Icelandic or bilingual children who live in Iceland permanently. Primary teaching uses the International Primary Curriculum together with AERO Common Core Plus or Icelandic national standards, and Grades 7 to 10 follow the IB Middle Years Programme. ISI has been accredited by the Middle States Association since 2017, is an authorised IB World School, a member of the Educational Collaborative for International Schools (ECIS) and of the IPC network since 2007, and is licensed by the Icelandic Ministry of Education and the municipality of Garðabær. It also works with the U.S. Office of Overseas Schools.
