The American School of Tegucigalpa (AST) is a private, co-educational day school in the Lomas del Guijarro area of Tegucigalpa, Honduras. It was founded in 1946 with support from the United States Embassy as the first bilingual school in the city, opened with 42 pupils and moved to its present hillside campus in 1962. The school is owned by the Sociedad Educativa Interamericana de Tegucigalpa, an association of parents, and teaches a college-preparatory programme from Nursery (age 3) to Grade 12, following a calendar that runs from August to May. Around 1,050 students from 16 nationalities are enrolled, most of them Honduran, with average classes of about 20. Instruction is bilingual in English and Spanish and the school offers no religious teaching. Students can graduate with up to three diplomas: the American high school diploma, the Honduran Bachillerato and the International Baccalaureate Diploma. AST is accredited by Cognia, which awarded it Accredited with Merit status in 2026, by the Honduran Ministry of Education and by the IB, and it belongs to AASCA, the Tri-Association and the Association of Bilingual Schools of Honduras.
