ISR, situated in the Düsseldorf – Neuss – Meerbusch region, provides outstanding international education for students from Kindergarten through Grade 12 in a multilingual environment. The school is exclusively funded by tuition fees and does not receive any state financial support. All income is reinvested directly into the school and kindergarten, ensuring continual improvement for the benefit of our students.

Additionally, ISR is an accredited member of Cognia, a Cambridge Examinations Centre, and an IB World School. The school is also authorized to conduct College Board PSAT examinations on campus.

ISR is dedicated to delivering comprehensive, internationally oriented, and individualized support for its students, offering an outstanding educational approach that prepares them for admission to prestigious universities around the world. The school's well-structured curriculum – combined with the early identification of learning gaps through weekly assessments – forms the foundation for ISR students' graduation results, which consistently exceed both German and global averages.

The centrally developed curriculum is delivered using specially designed teaching programs, ensuring consistency and high standards across all grade levels. Additionally, German is taught in accordance with the curriculum for high schools in North Rhine-Westphalia, providing students with a solid academic foundation in both international and local contexts.

Just the Right Size: Our School is large enough to support a wide range of academic opportunities and extracurricular offerings, but small enough to support the connections and relationships that help our students thrive.

Our Students

There are over 1,100 students from 60 nations attending Kindergarten through Grade 12. ISR students routinely achieve excellent International Baccalaureate (IB) scores and these internationally recognized diplomas qualify students for entrance to top universities worldwide, including Germany.

Our Curriculum

ISR offers an international curriculum. In addition to English and German, a third language is studied starting in Grade 6 with a choice of either French, Spanish, Japanese or Chinese.

In Grades 9 and 10, students are prepared for external examinations such as Cambridge IGCSE – International General Certificate of Secondary Education, DELE – Diplomas de Español como Lengua Extranjera and DELF – Diplôme d'Etudes en langue Française.

ISR offers the International Baccalaureate (IB) for students in grades 11 and 12 and ISR graduates have achieved marks well above the worldwide and German averages and have gone on to study at top universities around the world and in Germany.

We have an outstanding track record qualifying ISR students for studies at universities in Germany. In the past three years, 100% of our students, who wished to, entered German universities by meeting special German IB requirements which qualify passing students for their "Allgemeine Hochschulreife".

Educational principles

At ISR International School on the Rhine, an international school located near DĂĽsseldorf in Neuss, education is academically ambitious, internationally minded and purposefully structured to prepare students for university and for life beyond school.

Our guiding principle, "We Enable Great Minds and Strong Characters," is at the heart of our educational approach. We believe that excellent education should develop not only strong academic abilities, but also independence, resilience, responsibility and the personal qualities students need to succeed in a changing world.

Our educational approach begins with the end in mind. From the earliest years, students develop the knowledge, skills and learning habits they will need for future academic success. The Cambridge International Curriculum provides a strong and coherent foundation throughout Elementary and Secondary School, leading into the Cambridge IGCSE programme and, ultimately, the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme in Grades 11 and 12. This carefully structured pathway enables students to build their competencies progressively while developing a genuine curiosity and passion for learning.

High academic expectations are combined with individual support and close monitoring of student progress. Regular assessment helps teachers identify learning gaps at an early stage and provide targeted support, ensuring that students are challenged appropriately and encouraged to reach their full potential.

Learning at ISR goes beyond the acquisition of academic knowledge. We place strong emphasis on critical thinking, independent inquiry, reflection, communication, time management and organisational skills. Students are encouraged to become open-minded, engaged and lifelong learners who are equipped to respond confidently to future challenges.

Located in the DĂĽsseldorf area and serving families from DĂĽsseldorf, Neuss, Meerbusch and the surrounding region, ISR offers a diverse, international and multilingual learning environment. Together with leadership opportunities, sports, music, art, extracurricular activities and community engagement, this supports the development of well-rounded young people who are prepared to succeed at leading universities around the world and to continue learning throughout their lives.

School values

At ISR International School on the Rhine, serving the DĂĽsseldorf, Neuss and Meerbusch region, education and character development go hand in hand. Our guiding principle, "We Enable Great Minds and Strong Characters," reflects our belief that academic excellence should always be accompanied by integrity, responsibility, respect and strong personal values.

Our mission is not only to encourage intellectual curiosity and excellence, but also to cultivate high moral standards that will guide our students throughout their lives. We want our students to leave ISR not only academically well prepared, but also confident in who they are and conscious of the responsibility they carry towards others and the wider community.

At the heart of our school culture are four core values: respecting the achievements of others – "It's Cool To Be Good!"; understanding and respecting different cultures; honesty, integrity, responsibility and sincerity; and clarity of thought.

"It's Cool To Be Good!" represents a culture in which effort, achievement and ambition are valued and celebrated. We encourage our students to work hard, set high standards for themselves and recognise the accomplishments of others. At the same time, we believe that success should be accompanied by humility, compassion, accountability and respect.

As an international school near DĂĽsseldorf, ISR brings together students, families and staff from 60 different nationalities, cultures and backgrounds. Cultural understanding is therefore part of everyday school life. Students learn to appreciate both differences and similarities, consider different perspectives and interact respectfully with others.

Ultimately, "We Enable Great Minds and Strong Characters" means preparing students not only to achieve academically, but also to become confident, multilingual and socially responsible global citizens who make thoughtful decisions, take responsibility for their actions and contribute positively to the communities in which they live.

Honestly, I couldn’t be happier with ISR. Since our family joined the school, our daughter Elisa has changed in such positive ways. Not only is her English level truly impressive after just one year, but she also benefits from caring, attentive teachers who genuinely support her! As parents, we find it very easy to approach the academic leadership team; they are always friendly, responsive, and available whenever we have questions. We truly feel that moving to ISR has been the best decision we could have made for our family!!! In addition, the Par...

I have two children at the school, one in Kindergarten and the other in Grade 3. They both have a wonderful time and truly enjoy going to school every day. We couldn’t be happier with our experience; it’s a fantastic school and a great fit for both of them!

I have one child who graduated last year (first 4 years in German primary school) and one that is now in 10th grade (who wend to German schools in 5-6 grade but then has gone back to ISR for 7th +) and now is doing an exchange year in the US. I have found ISR to be closely focused on my children, willing to be flexible and truly a caring attitude. One thing that should be remembered is that the requirements are very high and it is very challenging but that is the standard they have set and parents and children have to be prepared for the expectatio...
