Colegio Terranova Internacional is a private trilingual IB World School in the Cumbayá valley, on the eastern side of Quito, Ecuador, near Scala Mall and the Ruta Viva highway. It was set up in 2004 by twelve teachers who wanted a student-centred school built on active learning and critical thinking. The IB Diploma was authorised in 2009, preschool and primary sections were added in 2015, and in 2022 the school joined International Schools Partnership (ISP); in 2026 it was officially recognised as Unidad Educativa Particular Terranova Internacional. Children aged 3 to 18 follow the full IB continuum (PYP, MYP and Diploma Programme) integrated with the Ecuadorian national curriculum, and students who prefer can take a specialised pathway in the last two years of bachillerato. Teaching mixes English and Spanish from preschool and adds French in primary, with graduates aiming for C1 in English and B2 in French. Pupils come from more than 15 countries. The school reports that 95% of its Diploma candidates earn the diploma, that most students beat global averages in MAP Growth tests and that around half of its graduates go on to study abroad, mainly in the US, the UK and Europe. Daily life includes maker spaces, science labs, music and art studios, a house system, festivals such as Terrafest and Color and Sound, and leadership roles for older students.

Preschool (ages 3 to 6: Playgroup, Pre-Kinder, 1st and 2nd básica) follows the IB PYP in a bilingual, play-based setting. Primary (3rd to 7th básica, ages 7 to 11) continues the PYP with inquiry projects and maker spaces. Secondary (ages 12 to 18) covers the MYP from 8th básica to 1st bachillerato, followed by the IB Diploma or a specialised pathway in 2nd and 3rd bachillerato. Families can apply at any point of the school year.

Terranova is a trilingual school. Preschool children learn in an English-Spanish bilingual setting; in primary, English is the main language for core subjects while Spanish is reinforced in its own lessons, and French starts as a third language. In secondary, French groups are set by placement tests, and by graduation most students reach C1 in English and many reach B2 in French, checked with external exams through the school's link with the Alliance Française. TOEFL Primary and Junior also track progress.

Terranova runs all three IB programmes: the Primary Years Programme in preschool and primary, the Middle Years Programme from 8th básica to 1st year of bachillerato, finishing with the Personal Project, and the IB Diploma Programme in the final two years, with Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. Students who do not take the full Diploma choose a specialised pathway in Science & Technology, Humanities & Arts or Business & Leadership. Through ISP they join global programmes such as Model United Nations, Filmmakers and virtual exchanges, travel to the UK, US and France, and can sit LAMDA exams in performing arts.

On weekday afternoons until 16:00, pupils can join clubs in robotics, science, debate, art, dance and music, or train in football, basketball, volleyball, athletics and swimming; football clinics are run with Atlético de Madrid Ecuador. Older students take on roles in the student council, as house leaders or prefects and on the environmental committee, and the calendar includes Terrafest, a poetry festival, a business fair, Christmas concerts and a family sports day.

Optional school buses cover routes across Quito, Tumbaco and Cumbayá, booked through the Mi Buseta app, and also run after extracurricular activities. A cafeteria serves healthy meals and an on-site medical service cares for pupils. The Cumbayá campus offers preschool children 'magic rooms', a library, a play market, a technology class and safe outdoor play areas. Primary pupils use an art room, a music room, a carpentry workshop, a sewing room, a teaching kitchen, a technology lab and a 3D printing lab. Secondary students work in a co-working space, a robotics lab and separate biology, chemistry and physics laboratories, with dedicated rooms for guitar, violin and choir.
