Colegio Rochester is a private, co-educational bilingual school on a country campus at kilometre 15 of the Autopista Norte in Chía, Cundinamarca, just north of Bogotá, Colombia. It follows the Colombian calendar B (August to June) and educates children from Prejardín, at around four years old, to Undécimo, the final year of secondary school. The school is now part of the Nord Anglia Education group and is a member of the Council of International Schools. Its model is unusual: it is based on William Glasser's Choice Theory, cooperative learning and 'useful' learning applied to real problems, and it aims for every student to feel safe and cared for while becoming fully bilingual in Spanish and English. Older students add Portuguese or French to B2-C1 level, prepare for TOEFL, follow an eight-semester pre-university plan and complete a research project in their final year. Rochester reports an A+ ('Muy Superior') ranking in Colombia's national ICFES tests, a ratio of about eight students per teacher and a staff in which most teachers are Apple certified. Its 28,500-square-metre campus was the first school in Latin America to earn LEED Platinum certification and also holds TRUE Zero Waste Gold. The school has a Catholic chaplaincy, and students may optionally prepare for the sacraments.
