Wycombe Abbey School Hangzhou (WAS Hangzhou, known in Chinese as 杭州市萧山区威雅实验学校) is a private, co-educational day and boarding school in Daicun Town, Xiaoshan District, in the south of Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. Set up by the Wycombe Abbey Education Group as one of the Wycombe Abbey Schools in China, it opened in September 2021 and serves pupils aged 3 to 18, from kindergarten through primary and middle school up to a sixth form, enrolling both Chinese and international families. The academic model combines the Chinese national curriculum with a British pathway: the Early Years Foundation Stage in kindergarten, elements of the English National Curriculum, and IGCSE and A-Level courses in the upper years, with graduates expected to go on to universities abroad, mostly in the UK and the US. Teaching is bilingual, the share of lessons taught through English grows as pupils move up the school, and classes are kept small. Music, art, drama and sport are part of every pupil's timetable, and an enrichment 'Super Curriculum' adds options such as the Duke of Edinburgh's Award, Model United Nations and the World Scholars' Cup. The 33-acre campus lies beside Xiannu (Fairy) Lake against a backdrop of wooded hills, with over 84,000 sqm of buildings including an 800-seat theatre, a FINA-standard swimming pool and boarding houses for up to 960 students. Pastoral care is built around a house and tutor system adapted from British boarding schools.
