Living in Stockholm
Sweden's historic capital city, Stockholm, with its population of just under 1 million people in the municipality and around 2.4 million in the metropolitan area, is Europe's fastest growing city and a magnet for innovative tech startups and video gaming companies.
Getting around
Stockholm is a beautiful, green, peaceful city made up of 14 islands connected by a network of bridges and ferries. It is one of the safest and cleanest cities in the world and easy to get around on foot, by bike on the numerous cycle paths or via the excellent, efficient public transport system.
Lifestyle
Stockholm residents enjoy an active outdoor lifestyle and have a greater focus on work-life balance than most other capital cities. Parks are plentiful and, wherever you live you are never far from scenic rivers, lakes, forests and an abundance of magnificent wildlife. Family is very important in Sweden and children are welcome in most cafés and restaurants. Gender equality is the norm here so it is very common for Dads to share the childcare or even stay at home with the children while Mums go out to work. Swedish people are usually very polite and helpful once approached.
Language
Whilst knowing some Swedish is useful, and appreciated, the Swedish are the best in the world at speaking English as a second language and many companies use English as their working language.
