MADRID, 14 October 2026. St. George Madrid has reported that its 62 candidates in the May 2026 IB Diploma session averaged 32.11 points out of 45, above the world average of 30.88, and that 95% of them were awarded the diploma. The British international school in Hortaleza published the results on 6 October.
The figures cover all 62 students entered for the diploma in the May session, so the average reflects the whole year group rather than a selected few.
The school also reported that 68% of its candidates earned the IB Bilingual Diploma. The IB awards this version of the diploma to students who complete courses in two languages, for example by studying literature in two languages or by taking a subject in a language other than their main one, a natural fit for a school where students learn in English and Spanish every day.
The IB Diploma is marked out of 45 points: up to seven in each of six subjects, plus up to three for the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge. A diploma requires at least 24 points and a set of minimum conditions across subjects.
“These results are a reflection of the combined efforts of our students, families and teaching team, as well as an educational approach that combines academic rigour with an inclusive environment where every student can develop their potential.”

About St. George Madrid
St. George Madrid is a British international school on Calle de los Padres Dominicos, in the Hortaleza district in the north of the city, for students from 20 months to 18 years old. It is part of International Schools Partnership (ISP).
Younger pupils follow the International Primary Curriculum and then the International Secondary Curriculum, leading to IGCSE examinations at 16, before students take the IB Diploma Programme in the last two years. The school offers English immersion with a multilingual approach.
What this means for families
For families in Madrid weighing up the IB Diploma against the Spanish Bachillerato, these results show the IB route working for a large and mixed year group, not only for a selective few. The high share of bilingual diplomas is also useful for students who want to keep both Spanish and English universities open, and the IB Diploma is recognised for admission to Spanish universities through the UNED accreditation process.
