EL PUERTO DE SANTA MARÍA, 11 October 2026. El Centro Inglés, in El Puerto de Santa María, has reported results in the OECD's PISA for Schools assessment that are well above the averages for Spain and the OECD in reading, mathematics and science. Its overall score was 528 points, against 462 for Spain and 469 for the OECD.
The school published the results on 15 September, a week after Spain's national results in PISA 2025 were released. PISA for Schools is a separate OECD assessment that individual schools take part in, and its scores can be read against the national averages from the main PISA study.
The strongest result came in reading, where the school scored 539 points, 88 more than the Spanish average of 451 and 78 more than the OECD average of 461. In mathematics it scored 521, compared with 457 for Spain and 463 for the OECD, and the school says the report found these differences to be statistically significant. In science it scored 525, against 477 for Spain and 482 for the OECD.
The school added that in an earlier edition of the assessment it had also stood out in Global Competence, the PISA domain that looks at how students understand and act on global and intercultural questions.
It has been a busy start to the year. On 5 October El Centro Inglés announced that it had renewed its status as a Microsoft Elevate Showcase School for 2026-27, and in September it presented a new identity as an International Family School.
About El Centro Inglés
Founded in 1969 by Linda M. Randell and now directed by David Randell, El Centro Inglés is a private school on Avenida de Fuentebravía in El Puerto de Santa María, on the Bay of Cádiz. It teaches children from nursery through to Bachillerato, organised into Early Years, Junior School, Senior School and Sixth Form.
The school describes its model as an international curriculum in which learning is practical, project based and enriched by international experiences, and it is a Cambridge preparation centre for English language exams. The school reports that its students go on to universities in Spain and abroad.
What this means for families
For families in the province of Cádiz, an external benchmark such as PISA for Schools helps to compare a school with the wider system, since it measures how students apply reading, maths and science rather than how well they know a syllabus. Results this far above the national and OECD averages are a useful data point to raise when visiting the school.
