SINGAPORE, 15 October 2026. Several teams from Canadian International School (CIS) in Singapore have qualified for the World Scholar's Cup Tournament of Champions at Yale University in November, after competing in the Global Round in Bangkok against more than 2,200 scholars. The school announced the results on 12 October.
The students reached Bangkok after their performance in the Singapore Regional Round in May. At the Global Round they competed in team debate, collaborative writing, the Scholar's Bowl and the Scholar's Challenge, and won multiple gold and silver medals across all four events.
One student, Adritha R., was selected as the flag bearer for Singapore during the competition. She said the experience helped her to "improve my skillset and learn how to find my voice under pressure", and gave her and her teammates the chance to meet students representing different countries.
The school says the competition put into practice skills its students develop every day: thinking critically, communicating ideas clearly and working together under pressure. It links these to an education that encourages inquiry, independent thinking and engagement with different perspectives, in which students learn to question ideas, build arguments and solve problems with others.
The World Scholar's Cup brings together students in junior and senior divisions from schools around the world. Teams work on a common theme across subjects, and the best performers at the Global Rounds earn a place at the Tournament of Champions, held at Yale.
โWhat I enjoyed most was being able to compete, learn from and connect with 2,200 scholars in both junior and senior divisions, from around the world.โ
Akshara S., student, Canadian International School
Other students spoke about the friendships they made. Shams T. described the Bangkok round as "truly memorable", and Calvin J. said it had helped him "learn and grow as a person" while teaching him "new ways to see different perspectives and understand topics."

What this means for families
For families in Singapore, competitions like the World Scholar's Cup show how a school's teaching translates into skills that are hard to measure in exams: debating, writing under time pressure and working in a team with students from other countries. Parents visiting CIS may want to ask how students are selected for academic competitions and how the school supports them through regional and global rounds.
Families can compare CIS with other schools in the International School Advisor ranking of the best international schools in Singapore.
