GANDIA, 15 October 2026. British School Gandia, on the coast south of Valencia, has welcomed students into Year 12 for the first time this academic year, opening its first Sixth Form year group. The school announced the new stage, and the dedicated spaces created for it, on 18 September.
Sixth Form students now have their own floor in the school. The facilities include classrooms adapted to the needs of older students, study rooms for independent learning and individual study, two fully equipped laboratories for practical and experimental work, and spacious lockers.
The school describes the opening as a new chapter in its history and much more than the addition of another year group: it extends the education available to its students into the stage in which they prepare for university and for their future careers.
In the British system, Sixth Form covers Years 12 and 13, the last two years of school, for students aged 16 to 18. It is the stage in which students narrow their studies to a few subjects in depth and complete the qualifications that universities look at when they make offers.
According to the school, the spaces were designed to encourage the independence, concentration, responsibility and organisation that students need in the last two years of school, as they prepare for university and career decisions. Staff will guide students as they take on greater responsibility for their own learning.
The school also highlights the skills that become more important at this stage and remain useful well beyond school: time management, decision-making, responsibility and self-confidence. It says that, as its students grow, the school grows with them, expanding what it can offer and adapting its spaces to each stage.

What this means for families
For families in the Safor area and along the coast south of Valencia, a Sixth Form on the doorstep changes the picture: children who start in Pre-Nursery can now complete their entire British education, from the early years to the end of Sixth Form, at the same school. Families with children approaching Year 11 may want to ask which subjects will be offered in Year 12 and Year 13 and how university guidance is organised.
Families comparing options across the region can see other schools in the International School Advisor ranking of the best international schools in Valencia.
