American School of Barcelona Class of 2026 Sets IB Record of 37 Points

The school published the result on 25 September together with a five-year comparison that shows consistent performance above the world average with relatively large, non-selective year groups. In 2022, 75 students averaged 36 points against a world average of 32. In 2023 and 2024, cohorts of 86 and 85 students averaged 35 points when the world average was 30. In 2025, 91 students averaged 35 against 31, and in 2026 the 89 graduates moved the average up to 37.

According to the school, the 2026 average places ASB tied for first in the Spanish IB league tables and tied for eighth in the European tables. ASB adds that, over the last five years, its results have been among the strongest of any international school in Spain and Europe, despite cohorts that are large by European standards.

"The highest in our school's history."

American School of Barcelona, on the Class of 2026 IB Diploma average

The 2026 figure is one point above the school's previous best of 36, recorded in 2022, and the gap to the world average, six points, is the widest in the five years the school published. Over the same period ASB never finished below the world average, and its average has stayed between 35 and 37 points with cohorts that grew from 75 to around 90 students.

The school credited the result to "the dedication of our students, the expertise and support of our teachers, and the encouragement of families." It did not publish individual student scores.

About American School of Barcelona

American School of Barcelona is a private international school in Esplugues de Llobregat, on the western edge of Barcelona, where students in the final two years follow the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. Its IB cohorts have numbered between 75 and 91 students in each of the last five years.

What this means for families

For parents comparing IB schools in Barcelona, the useful figure is not only the 37-point average but the size of the cohort behind it. An average above the world mean across almost 90 students, year after year, suggests a programme that works for a broad range of learners rather than a small, selected group. Five years of published data also make it easier to judge consistency than a single strong year.

Families should still ask about course choices, university counselling and entry points for older students. To compare ASB with other schools in the city, see the International School Advisor ranking of the best international schools in Barcelona.
