The American International School of Algiers, or AISA, is a non-profit independent day school on a villa campus in the Ben Aknoun district of the capital. It opened in August 2016 after a decade of negotiation between the United States embassy and the Algerian authorities, inheriting furniture and the library of the American School of Tripoli, and it presents itself as the country's only authorised provider of a United States curriculum. Teaching rests on the AERO standards together with US Common Core, is delivered by teachers holding American licences, and uses learning materials brought in from the United States; pupil progress is measured with NWEA MAP tests. Children join at three in the early years section and continue through elementary and middle school; a high school strand covering grades nine and ten began in the autumn of 2026, with the two final years announced for later. Every pupil has a daily French lesson and Arabic twice a week, plus specials in art, ICT and physical education, a weekly swimming course at the nearby Sonatrach pool and after-school clubs covered by the tuition. Fees for 2026-27 run from 1,560,000 dinars in the early years to 3,260,000 for the high school grades, and the school reports pupils of eighteen to twenty nationalities with a four-to-one pupil-teacher ratio.

Information about languages of the American International School of Algiers (AISA)

English is the working language of the school, which describes its programme as designed for English-speaking pupils and taught by US-licensed staff; those who arrive with limited English are helped by an English Language Coordinator through in-class support or small pull-out groups. French is timetabled every day for forty-five minutes and split into beginner and advanced streams, following the Bien dit! course from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt around the five C's of language learning. Arabic runs twice weekly and covers both Modern Standard Arabic and the Algerian variety, using songs, stories and role-play to tie the language to local culture. The counsellor works in three languages.

Information about international degrees and programmes of the American International School of Algiers (AISA)

AISA states that it is the only school licensed to deliver a United States programme in Algeria, built on the AERO standards and the US Common Core, with every class taught by a teacher holding an American licence and all classroom materials imported from the United States. A curriculum coordinator oversees alignment across the grades and project-based learning runs through the subjects. Achievement is benchmarked against the NWEA MAP assessment, on which the school reports 95 per cent proficiency. The school says it is in candidacy with MSA (Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools); that process was still open at the date of this corpus, so no accreditation is recorded.
