How would you rate Yew Chung International School Hong Kong (YCIS)?
A highly toxic and dishonest school, it is more akin to a Chinese tuition centre. The students' level of English is extremely poor, many of them speak literally no English at all. The leadership are in total denial and gaslight frequently. Students make frequent derogatory comments about staff, including racism. Not a nice working environment, with CCTV everywhere, including (illegally) in every classroom, extremely high staff workloads and micro-managing, and a culture of fear and staff blaming as the students can do no wrong and are never held to account.
Some of their students are extremely toxic and their Instagram gossip account is full of bullying and harassment posts. Not a friendly environment for students to study in.
Yew Chung is a school uniquely talented in fostering hate between students and teachers. The environment is one of constant competition and ridicule, and it is a miracle that some students are able to graduate with so much as an ounce of self-confidence. It is truly astounding that a so-called school could display the level of disregard and carelessness that Yew Chung does regarding the basic care and education of its students. As an international school, one would assume a heavy , or at least some emphasis on the international aspect, with opportunities for students to explore different perspectives and ideas. However, what Yew Chung actually offers is a curriculum tailored for Chinese students, with no regard for any others. Yew Chung is a business first and a school last, and I would highly recommend that any parent who actually cares about their child to seriously consider if this is the environment they want.
I used to work there as a teacher and left as soon as my contract was up because of very poor practice. Mainland Chinese and other ethnic minority students were consistently discriminated by their fellow students and the school condoned that behaviour. The academic standard is generally low and parents are pushed into making up for the school's shortcomings with expensive private tutoring. Also, parents are consistently lied to about their children's development and performance.
The teachers always leave in the middle of the school year. A lot of teachers leave in the middle of IGCSEs and IBs, making students have a hard time.
This school is overpriced, school facilities are beyond a joke. Open learning classrooms is a mistake that the school has made.
It’s very fun and very nice. Nice friends and good environment
This review is for the primary school. Good standards of teaching, especially in science and maths. Strong music programme. Building facilities are run down. The school office is difficult to work with. Pastoral care and safeguarding policies are lacking. I would not recommend sending a non-Chinese speaking child to this school as both the Chinese language instruction and English language enrichment they receive will be inadequate.
The school needs to be closed down. Either that or they need to do a complete overhaul of the school system and staff with it. No child should go though the psychological horrors of bullying, harassment, talks of children overdosing and self harming come to mind. Would highly not recommend this school.
Terrible bullying going on at this place, the small non-Chinese minority get singled out and humiliated at every opportunity with the cooperation of some careless teachers. Some years later, my child is suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, self harming and taking antipsychotic drugs to ease the long lasting pain. We may sue.

This school is legit a joke. Principal is terrible and very unreasonable, poor education. Administration staff lacks any form of knowledge in their field. Sets unrealistic expectations for both teachers and students and is definitely not worth the money. Corrupt school system with no consideration for students or staff
