The British School in Tokyo (BST) is a truly international co-educational school with over 900 students aged between 3 and 18, located right in the centre of one of the most exciting cities in the world. Our recent Inspection Report, in which we received the highest grade, Excellent, in all 8 categories at every age level, has resulted in us becoming well known internationally for our high academic standards, for the care we take with each individual student of any ability and for the happy, multicultural environment that we provide for learning and play. The BST community is supportive and friendly and is committed to the pursuit of excellence. We have a long-established reputation for success that is based on collaboration and high standards. The British School in Tokyo has also developed an outstanding reputation for high-quality holistic education over many years. Established in 1989 in central Tokyo with a small initial cohort, the school now comprises over 65 different nationalities, 1,150 students and 200 staff located on two very well resourced campuses.

A small school in a big city. The lack of competition makes the lack of depth seem acceptable. Some wonderful elements, such as the wonderful librarian, the spring fair, some hard working teachers, but the small footprint, lack of facilities and imagination let it down

A lovely little school built on a neighbourhood block to house Primary and Pre-school. It is the only British school in Tokyo and indeed all Japan. They run the full national curriculum end with A-levels at Pre-university level. They are very popular and have an intricate, but very successful, progress testing, which then enables them to target students for a host of helpful reasons.

The British School in Tokyo was set up as a charitable trust in 1988 by a group of parents who wished their children to have a British style education in Tokyo. The School was opened in 1989 on a site in Shibuya, central Tokyo, located next to, and leased from, a well-respected Japanese private school, Shibuya Kyoiku Gakuen. In the early years of the School, the children were from ages 5 to 10 and the majority were British, in contrast to the situation today where the school provides education from age 3 to 18 and has over 50 nationalities, of whom ...
