About The ABC International School

ABC International School HCMC is a family owned school based in the South of the city. It has now been in operation for 23 years and currently has approximately 800 students. We are equally proud of the student centred focus that our family heritage encourages and the outstanding academic achievements that are a product of this.

Our key objective is to ensure students meet their full potential both personally and academically. It is a well recognised fact that it is only when children are safe, secure and happy that they can truly reach their potential.

The school has a decent campus with enough sport music and art facilities though not being excellent like BIS or SSIS with a solid rating of 7/10 the grades here are one of the best being able the compete with SSIS, BIS , and ISCHMC with students going to top schools after graduation but the school lacks in social activities nor is very focused in arts. the class size is around 17 - 20 for primary and secondary but in KS5 and KS6 the class shrinks by a lot ( around 7 - 10 ) overall a school with great academics , decent facilities and decent in sport wise but lacks in art and social activities 8/10 as the school is around 100 million vnd cheaper than schools like SSIS , BIS , ISHCMC in exchange for a smaller facility and social activities and art

Last year I sat through an interview for here and it was one of the most old fashioned interviews. The head of the secondary campus asked questions an interviewer would not dream of asking these days. I couldn’t believe it! Education has changed so much now and research is clear about what is good practice and what’s not. It was disappointing to discover that questions like his were still asked. It was also confusing that the head of secondary was not able to answer the questions I asked about the section and its environment. Writing this review is a chance for me to warn others since I still can’t believe the outdated practices suggested. Parents and teachers should not waste their effort and time. I ultimately secured a position in an educationally advanced school and I am loving the journey.

Please reduce fees and reflect the impact of C19. Over the world people have losses due to C19 but I don't see here taking losses but it is making gains. Virtual learning reduces the utilities and maintenance bills, printing costs, facility decline and takes food cost for lunch to nothing. We still pay our tuition that includes these costs for services we do not receive. The talk of the community and family is started by the school themselves. But there is no connection between what is happening in Vietnam and their actions. Families help each other in times of need they don't look to profit from each other. I wonder do other parents see what I see? Learn from example of SSIS.

I am happy my friend tell me about this website. I want to share my impression about this school. There are lots children in one class. This is not why we pay nearly highest fees in hcm. Friends who has children at cheaper schools have smaller class and better teachers with more experience. Big class size show this business care only about profit not customer. This school waste a lot money from fees and charity donation. Donations for charity are asked alot. Following this there is new campus. It expanding even during covid crisis. To have money for expanding is unusual during covid crisis. Families who help this school in some way are valued but others are seen for profit only. I decide to remove my children from this school and will recommend same to my friends. It is sad some parent are impressed only by results and will stay. They do not recognize the negative on children that come from being at maximum profit, one dimension place. Children at this school do very little outside academic. Teachers are nice to have conversation but most are not experienced and not effective and this is why most children spend each evening at academy. An example is my friend son was taken for math by teacher with high senior position in the school for few weeks. He was not good. He couldn't answer many question and made easy mistakes. My child try get help but teacher always say they busy. It is obvious that bullying is problem here also. I am happy that some family have courage to move their children to different school away from harmful atmosphere. It is sad I thought this school good for children development

It used to be very prestigious but recently has been rolling downhill as a joint result of lousy admittance and inability to hold on to great students. Nevertheless, there is a good variety of courses offered, there are many great teachers (Ms. Jiin for Maths), and the campus is quite beautiful.

I have two children at the school the oldest started in Yr 1 and will do his A levels next year. In January 2020 the school was again inspected by the UK Department of Education and given the very highest approval rating. I could not be happier with the education my children are getting there and consider it tthe best school in HCMC as well as the best value for money.

The ABC International School (originally the ABC English School) was established in 1995 at a time when Ho Chi Minh City lacked options in international education for children of foreign investors, expatriates and Vietnamese nationals. The school began with 12 students in a playgroup and nursery class and added new classes each year. By 2001 the school catered for 70 children from Playgroup to Year 6, teachers were increasingly recruited from overseas and the school formally began to follow the British National Curriculum. At this time, the school name was altered to the ABC International School to reflect the growth of the school and the diversity of the students and staff. In 2003, the school was registered in the UK with the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) and Department for Education and Skills (DfES). At this stage, the school was involved in a very rapid phase of expansion and growth as its popularity grew. The school moved into its first purpose built campus in Saigon South in 2004 and shortly afterwards, we were obliged to move to the larger present campus at Saigon South as the student population then exceeded 500. In 2005 the school was accredited by Cambridge University (UK) to teach the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) and Advanced level examinations. In the same year, the school successfully applied for membership of the Federation of British International Schools in South and East Asia (FOBISEA). Currently, The ABCIS is the only School in Vietnam to be acknowledged and accepted as a member of the Council of British International School (COBIS); a group of the most prestigious and best of British curriculum schools abroad that uphold the very highest academic standards and are recognised by the British Government. Similarly, it is the only school in Vietnam to offer examinations from Assessment and Qualifications Alliance (AQA) board.
