About Newton International Academy Barwa City (NIA)

Welcome to Newton International Academy, a truly international school community consisting of over 70 nationalities. As stated in our Vision, we strive for excellence and celebrate our successes, as a community.

We are fortunate at NIA to cater for children from Foundation 1 all the way through to Year 13. With 2 campuses providing an Early Years setting and one for our Primary and Secondary students, we are in a very good position to provide for your child’s needs. We provide a supportive environment that will encourage your child to be the best they can be, both academically and creatively. Through their learning journey we aim to encourage our children to be life-long learners, working with others to solve problems and hopefully make our world a better place. We access the National Curriculum of England and students complete examinations at iGCSE, AS and A2 Level. Our results continue to improve every year and we are very proud of this.

At NIA we realise that the education of your children is something that cannot happen without the support of the parent body and greater community. There is a warm feeling that exists here at NIA and to foster this parents are encouraged to be active participants in the education of our students. Research clearly supports that when parents participate and are involved in their child’s education, there is a greater likelihood of academic success for the child. There are many ways to participate in the education of our students. The easiest way, however, is to maintain effective lines of communication.

One of the most fast paced and hardworking school ever. Staff are passionate and dedicated towards teaching and learning, and assist students in all parts of their weaknesses. Furthermore, they portray the school as one of the top international British schools overseas.

I do not believe NIA to be a great school, and I *strongly* urge you to consider other options. STAFF While there are a few commendable teachers, there are only few. NIA has a problem with staff turnover in which teachers rarely stay past 2-3 years. This has been reported to be due to low satisfaction with pay and, particularly, management. There have been numerous incidents of verbal abuse towards both the teachers (and students) by those higher up. Many staff members have said they do not feel respected, rather belittled. The management is unprofessional. This is with regards to leadership and organisation. When it is time for inspection, the school changes up and some teachers are nicer for a short while. It is embarrassing. Nepotism is also evident with higher-ranking teachers. For those who have been at the school, it is clear whom I am referring to. For those who have not, do know that the higher ranking the staff are, it's not more experience or skill they have, but rather the Academic Head is their sister. If you are considering this as a place of employment, I *highly* recommend other schools in Qatar. STUDENTS The management at NIA are less concerned for its students, and more for its prestige and image. Certain staff believe it is appropriate to yell at students in an open corridor. There is a lack of professionalism - it is clear when the teacher disliked a student and treated them with less dignity. The school promotes this culture of fearing teachers in the case they would be reprimanded. The quality of teaching is also low. For reasons mentioned, the school finds it hard to retain talented teachers. OTHER The extra-curricular activities at the school is lacking. While they had big names such as TEDxYouth and MUN, these were mishandled and only successful on the surface. Again, the school only cares for appearance, and so it has only been talked about positively. That is false. Other issues include how the school is racially discriminatory and malpractices regarding examinations. I will not elaborate on these. I am happy to say that my time at NIA is in the past. There are far better schools in Qatar, however, so go for those instead!

From what I can say, this is one of the best schools in Doha. The community in this school is amazing and I think you (Or your child) might like it. The education and teaching quality is overall over decent. The only problem you might face could be fees, this school is quite expensive. Other than that, It is a great school!
