Meritton British International School (MBIS) is located in Chiang Mai, Thailand, on the doorstep of the famous old city and within minutes of the beautiful nature afforded by the surrounding forests and mountains. A vibrant cultural hub, the ‘Rose of the North’ is the main transport hub in the region and home to a thriving international community. Founded in 2018, MBIS is a small, family-based international school catering for 2-14 year olds. English is the main language of instruction, while Thai and, for older children, Mandarin, are also taught. Small-sized classes and a purpose built campus provide a safe and intimate environment which encourages strong student-teacher relationships and meaningful family involvement. Values Education The school aims to provide a program of learning which puts values at the heart of education. Research shows that making values like respect, responsibility, cooperation and resilience an integral part of daily learning enhances and supports students’ academic progress. Meritton’s Values-based Education program engages students, teachers and parents in regular learning activities, from values lessons and assemblies to life skills projects and parent workshops. Curriculums Daily mindfulness further supports concentration and emotional maturity while enquiry-based learning develops reflection and critical thinking skills. With the rigorous English National and Cambridge International programmes as core curriculums, students are provided with a well-rounded learning experience that fully meets their social, emotional, physical and intellectual needs. Students learn thematically, meaning that Science and Humanities are taught as dynamic ‘units of enquiry’, while Mathematics and English are given additional focus through stand alone lessons. All students study Thai language and culture, art, physical education, ICT, drama and music. MBIS’s Four Pillars The Thematic Approach, Enquiry-based Learning, Values-based Education and Mindfulness are our four foundation pillars and provide us with the confidence that every child has the opportunity to progress through the key stages of learning, and receive experiences and opportunities to develop their knowledge and skills. Qualified Teachers Meritton’s classroom teachers are fully qualified, experienced and native speakers of English. Our teachers have internationally recognised teaching certification, for example, a PGCE or Bachelor of Education, and some have Master’s degrees in teaching and education. The school principal has an MEd and more than 30 years teaching and educational management experience. The majority of our teachers are British, while others currently come from Australia, New Zealand, Canada, South Africa and the United States. Well-equipped facilities MBIS campus is a modern, purpose-built campus that comprises low-rise, attractive buildings, a swimming pool, grass sports field, covered hard court and lots of green areas designated as playgrounds, outdoor climbing and vegetable gardens. Specialist classrooms include a well-stocked library, science laboratory, and dedicated rooms for ICT, music, performing arts and visual art.
