About Kolej Tuanku Ja'afar (KTJ)

Welcome to Kolej Tuanku Ja'afar (KTJ)! We are the region's premier International School, providing a British-style education for children aged 3 - 19 years.

Based on an 80-acre green campus, KTJ provides students with access to an impressive range of sports facilities, including an indoor climbing wall; three swimming pools; five outdoor sports fields for athletics, cricket, hockey, football and rugby; outdoor basketball and tennis courts, as well as indoor badminton and squash courts.

Over 100 extra-curricular activities (ECAs) are offered across the Primary and Secondary School, allowing students to discover new talents, develop important life skills in leadership and teamwork, and make lasting memories with their friends. The extensive ECA program includes Coding, Environmental and Sustainability, Golf, Music, Tech Club, STEM and Yoga.

KTJ Sixth Form students are also given the opportunity to bolster their university applications through specialist extra-curricular activities and events. These include developing a competitive law or medical application, the annual Oxbridge and KTJ Law Moot, Friday night enrichment talks from expert speakers and national competitions in debate, engineering and public speaking.

In 2021, 81% of A Level entries were graded A* or A, and 90% graded an A* to B. 55 KTJ Sixth Form students received straight A* grades, compared to 31 in 2019 when students last sat for the A Level examinations due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

KTJ also achieved a value-added score of 0.6 from the Cambridge Centre for Evaluation and Monitoring (CEM) for last year’s A Level students, indicating that on average KTJ students achieved more than half a grade higher than predicted by the baseline testing carried out before they started their Sixth Form studies. This statistic places KTJ in the top 4% of all schools worldwide for value added.

KTJ was awarded the BSA International School of the Year Award 2021, and ranked in the top 20 international schools in the world for the number of Oxbridge offers. Last year, 91% of UK-bound KTJ students received entry into their firm choice universities. University destinations included Cambridge, Edinburgh, Imperial, LSE and Warwick, as well as Columbia, Harvard, UPenn and Stanford in the US.

Overall

I think the school is good for A Level but need improvement for lower secondary (Y7-Y9) & IGCSE. Some of their ECA, facilities, golf, public speaking class, foreign language class are not available for lower secondary students. Limited academic support for lower secondary boarder after school lessons. Their A Level students are mostly from outside and the scholars.

I think the school is highly recommended for its A Level but not really for IGCSE. Most of their Form 5 students leave the school after the IGCSE, only a few stay on. Their A Level students are mostly from outside and the scholars.
