About Kellett School

Kellett School Hong Kong was founded in 1976 as a not-for-profit association by like-minded parents, in order to provide a high-quality British education to the English-speaking community in Hong Kong.

Today, Kellett, the British International School in Hong Kong, educates over 1300 students from 4 to 18 years in the English National Curriculum. Kellett offers a truly outstanding education, evidenced by a BSO Inspection, membership of HMC and IAPS, as well as exceptional public examination results.

A broad curriculum, coupled with a wide variety of extra-curricular activities, ensures that all students from Reception through to I/GCSEs and A-levels achieve their personal best.

Overall

My daughter was in Kellet for five years. She has never been in a more stressful/hostile social environment than during her time there. Often the target of bullying, or at the very least pettiness and rudeness from an unacceptable amount of her schoolmates, she developed nervous tics and suffered from sleeping problems for most of every school year. This may not be a reflection of the school community as a whole, but it shows how ineffective their methods of handling these situations are, and the complacency of a school administration more focused on appearance than on well-being. Their academics are acceptable, I suppose, but in five years there they never managed to help her overcome the learning gap in mathematics from having transferred from an American curriculum at a crucial formative stage. Now she attends a different top school in HK where she's not only healthy and happy, but her academic performance is stellar. Kellet is a good school, there's no denying that, but their approach to healthy social interaction and general good-personhood (if that were a word) is substandard and disappointing. If a child is lucky enough not to run into this kind of trouble there, I imagine they'd be well. But if they do, I wish you luck.

Kellett School was founded in 1976, the Chinese Year of the Fire Dragon. The parent founders sought a high-quality, British-style education, rich in the Arts and in Sport. We are now an established, long-time stake-holder in Hong Kong, with a well-deserved reputation for excellence. The school’s first two classes had forty-four, mainly expatriate, children. From these first British, American, Australian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Indian, Pakistani, Iranian, Norwegian and Swedish families came the sense of community and fellowship that continues to thrive today. By 1977, the school had tripled to 122 students and had relocated to leased premises in Taikoo Shing. By then, Kellett School Association Limited had been established and officially registered with the Hong Kong Education Department as an International Kindergarten and Primary School. In 1980, the school moved to a purpose built facility in Hong Kong’s Southern District of Wah Fu overlooking Kellett Bay. This facility is still there today and remains the home of the first of the two preparatory schools, known as Kellett School, Pok Fu Lam. Since the early days, Kellett has grown alongside Hong Kong. In August 2007, the school completed the sixth phase of its development, thus achieving the vision of its founders. A major extension and its associated renovations at the preparatory campus now provides an enviable range of facilities rarely found in a prep school of its size.
