About International Bilingual School Munich (IBSM)

International Bilingual School Munich (IBSM) provides all students with an inspiring, bilingual learning environment in which they acquire a first-class international education. Our private school focuses on the individual child and his or her skills, talents and needs. Our teachers are not simply competent brokers of knowledge, they are also committed companions in learning who encourage the children to indulge their curiosity, investigate the world, ask questions and acquire global knowledge concepts. Unlike traditional forms of teaching, the ibsm focuses on free and project work. The children investigate and discover. They actively design their learning processes in a self-determining manner which, according to the latest brain research, produces very positive learning results. Our bilingual primary school teaches the Bavarian curriculum for primary school which it combines with the internationally-recognised Primary Years Programme (PYP) of the IBO. This results in an integrated curriculum the trans-disciplinary approach of which reflects the philosophy and mission of the school and brings it to life.

Every child has unique potential which is ripe for development. Our bilingual primary school is an inspiring place for learning and growing. We offer stimulating, international and bilingual surroundings in a family atmosphere. With us, children are able to develop on their own terms and give free rein to their eagerness to learn. We see ourselves as innovative, sensitive and international companions in education who support, challenge and motivate. We are united in our objective of ensuring that

- the children develop into self-confident, socially competent individuals who are eager to learn and think globally
- the children are able to indulge their thirst for discovery, providing them with experience-based comprehension and a deep understanding of knowledge concepts
- the hands-on bilingual approach in English and German encourages the children to acquire well-founded skills in both languages in a natural manner
- the school enjoys an atmosphere characterized by the mutual respect, tolerance and valuing of different cultures and religions and
- our over 25 nations reflect the full variety of an international community in a small, all-day primary school with a family atmosphere

We had two Girls in the school for two years, and we can't recommend It. Most of the teachers and children left the school. The project that they offered was good, but actually the school was not working properly, even in aspects as catering and cleaning. It was a relief to find place in other school.

We had two children there and couldn’t wait to transfer them out. They didn’t learn much (except German language), the teachers seem underpaid and overworked, the funds are going to a new building they are constructing. They don’t effectively deal with bullying, I know many families who left because of all of these factors. Go anywhere else!!!

I have completed a variety of internships at various international schools in Munich for my teaching degree years ago, and this is the school I would recommend! It's a small school, which truly celebrates multiculturalism and their international students and families. On my first day I was surrounded by kindy kids, telling me excitedly where their families are from and how many different languages they could speak! Some of them spoke 4 languages fluently, and the kids thought it was funny that I only spoke two

Great school with lovely teachers, and a wonderful international teaching concept. The problem of smelling toilets has been solved by a general refurbishment over the summer holidays. Every class is being taught by a German, and an English mother tongue teacher.

We were very happy with the ibsm in the two years. The team is nice and committed, the rooms are not lavish, but functional and clean and we had a really good time overall.

We joined IBSM primary school for three years and after all, I can not recommend this school. Unless your child does not do all school work completely by his own and needs some guidance, explanations, simply school lessons and you and your child are not willing to do all work in the evenings, after the children spend the whole day in tiring, chaotic and loud (DIY) lessons, you should not loose your time there. Children are confronted with frustrated teachers and their indifferent behaviour towards the class. Some of them even seem to dislike children at all. Then: Most of the parents representatives do nearly a part time job at school, therefore they have an irritating strong voice in the overall organisation of school life. Two stars simply for the attempt (failed in my opinion) to a different school and learning (PYP).
