I worked as an expat teacher at the Doha British School. My experiences should serve as guidance to anyone who intends taking up employment at this school. They have a penchant for violating employee rights and transgressing labour law. Labour law article 51 is infringed in that they don't provide you with all information at the time of making an offer of employment - please be mindful of this. They make you promises to get you on board but these are never fulfilled. I was on a family sponsorship contract but I didn't get to bring my family over as the salary they had offered was below the immigration requirements for family visas. Labour law article 49 is infringed in that the contract takes away rights from the employee to terminate the contract. In my case, I wished to terminate as I had not intended working abroad without my family around. When I had resigned, they showed their true nature by not paying my salary for the last month of work. The reason cited was that I had breached the contract and had ceased work before end of my notice period. I had stopped working on the 28th day of the legal 30 day notice period on account of them having not paid me on the normal pay date. I was without funds to get to work and they had only then told me that the last month salary gets paid a week after the last day of work, yet another condition they didn't disclose before (one has to speculate if this is even legal). To date, I still have not been paid and no one at the company cares to respond to my emails. I am not alone in my experiences. Colleagues of mine have had various hiccups with HR. They never look after their staff and cheat you of your rights. They lie and are evasive. Please tread carefully when considering to work for them. Feel free to contact me so I can share my insights

The school building is not the only thing that determines the quality of a school. I wish the education was as good as the school’s building. Except for a few teachers, most do not have adequate qualifications. In addition, although some teachers do not have sufficient qualifications, they are very capricious and do not have sufficient and professional communication.
