About Beacon Private School (BPS)

At Beacon Private School (BPS) we believe that we are all learners; we strive to equip our learners with the tools to develop socially, emotionally, and academically. We aim to trigger their curiosity in order to prepare them for life as life-long learners. We chose to be different in our approach to teaching and learning, we adopted the Common Ground Collaborative learning ecosystem and framework. This ecosystem gives us a common language for learning, it gives us learning strategies designed around Inquiry and Project Based learning. The CGC allows learners to have a voice and a choice in guiding their own learning outcomes. More importantly, it allows our learners to fully demonstrate the impacts the learning process has had on them, through regular reflections on the conceptual, competency and character learning they acquired. Our learners are agents of their own learning, made only possible through engaging meaningful learning experiences with their teachers and peers.

While we value academic excellence as an important goal in our vision and mission, we also value the development of the child as a whole. Our learners are the heart of BPS. Over the years, as the school grew, we have worked at giving our learners several options to choose from when they graduate from BPS. These options had to fit with our own holistic approach to learning. It is for this reason that our learners will be able to graduate with the Bahrain High School Diploma as well as a New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) recognized High School diploma and an IB diploma since we are currently an eligible candidate school for NEASC and candidate school for IBDP. Quite a feat for such a young school, but a testimony of our dedication to our learners and their future.

My son wants go to school every day, he is very happy there; It is a personalizad school because there are not many children per class, the teachers are incredible, the new administration brings really important and positive changes to the school, we can see more structure and order. We can also see how my son learns a lot every day and how his mind works by asking many questions outside of school. We are waiting for the new building.

My two girls are in Beacon Private School and the first thing I have to say is that they love and are excited to go to school, which is very important! There are so many positives, but let's talk about a few! The number of students in each class at BPS is limited, ensuring teachers are able to give individual attention and focus to every learner. There is also a strong focus on character building ( have seen this change in my daughter who used to refuse to speak out loud two years ago and has just today asked me to enroll her for the school’s musical). There is also a sense of community as the school feels like a large family where your voice (as a parent) is always heard. Another plus is that learners are given the opportunity to learn three languages (my older daughter (grade 3) is currently doing Arabic, English and French, but Spanish is also offered). All recent changes have been positive ones in my opinion and the new management have been so clear and transparent with everything. Most recently, the School has become a PYP and MYP candidate (which cannot be said for a lot of other schools in Bahrain) and I personally am beyond excited to see where this takes the school. I do have to say that some of the reviews below are beyond outdated. The school goes up to 12th grade and teachers seem genuinely happy with the new SEK Management, I know we are!

We absolutely LOVE Beacon School! The new management is so warm yet professional and they are always ready to listen to the parents and to the learners. The teachers are really passionate about teaching and care so much! It is not just a “job” to them. We love the direction they are taking towards academics, their focus on mental health and bringing out leadership qualities in the kids. Also they are focused on teaching Spanish or French AND Arabic on a daily basis! Last but not least-SEK has an extensive global network! Our kids have the opportunity to visit and study at their other campuses! We are so lucky to have this school in Bahrain! Even though we look forward to the extension of their state of the art facilities, we love the school as it is!

Some of the things mentioned in the reviews are inaccurate. The grades go up to Grade 12 this year (2023 - 2024). Learners are already doing the IBDP (they started last year), and the school is a candidate for PYP and MYP. There are extended learning opportunities (ELO) where learners may be given work to do beyond the classroom where they work on projects, speeches, designing and other assignments. The learners are very diverse – there are native English speakers, learners who speak English as a second language and others who are in the process of learning the language. The school offers a three-language program (English, Arabic, and Spanish or French). The schools offers the third language as advanced or as a beginners subject. The school also provides regular reports where learners are constantly assessed – descriptive reports and grades are provided. The school is managed by SEK Education Group, and it is an international school and part of a network of schools established in several countries. BPS has very spacious classrooms. They have a Pre-Nursery for 2 year old toddlers, and the grades go up to Grade 12. It was supposed to have a facility building ready – but there is a delay in that. There are also other facilities on campus - football field, gym, playgrounds, gardens, science labs, IT lab, and a library. There are also elementary and secondary school counsellors, and an IBDP coordinator and a learning support department.

Beacon private school is one of the best, most creative and academically qualified. It is honestly one of the most stress-free school for any learner although learners are highly challenged and capable of many abilities. It’s based on giving the learner their ability to make their own choices which helps with growing the sense of responsibility in the child. All the teachers are very kind and helpful. They’re the best! There are many facilities that help the learner improve their social skills. A new building is being built and it has even better facilities so stay tuned!

The school started out with lots of hope. But the expectations of the school for learning are low. Facilities are limited. This is a basic school and we will be moving our kids next year where it has a better high school program to prepare my kids for higher achievement and university. The director keeps firing or upsetting her good teachers and we had amazing counsellor who she fired because she didn’t like her. Now high school has no counsellor and no IB coordinator. I pay too much for the no service and want my kids in a stable school.

The teachers attention to details is impressive. They put the kids needs before anything and allow them to grow in a safe environment. Sincere thanks to everyone working in BPS

I am very pleased with the school system and the way the curriculum is delivered. In addition the staff are cooperative and the school offers high standard facilities. With no doubt I would recommend beacon private school to my family and friends.

We love BPS. Our daughter loves going to school which is really important to us. We can see first hand the results of their fantastic early years education program. The teaching and learning, staff, facilities, communication and parent involvement is excellent. For a new school, it is one of the best in Bahrain and I highly recommend it.

BPS has a comfortable, small facility and the teachers are nice. But, this is definitely not an academic school. Maximum grade is Grade 10 this year. Parents are starting to feel their kids are not getting the results they expect for the price they are paying. The students have no homework and aren't use to grading, so how will the students be ready to do the IB the school just signed them up for. There are a lot of students who don't speak much English or have other special needs requirements at this school. The school is not a structured learning environment and the students waste a lot of time in the inquiry based learning model that has no grades. This has been supported by the director, who should consider resigning. The students have not been fairly prepared and it is now showing as they are getting older and university expectations are around the corner. BPS was supposed to build a new secondary building but some say that the enrolment is so low that there isn't the funds for that. If you are looking for a more rigorous academic program with a track record of students going to top universities, best to look at St. Christopher's, Riffa, Bayan and the British school.
