About Axis International School

Axis International School is a school that was established to make a good international program accessible to any student that desires to have this type of education and that shows an ability for it. To help achieve this goal, and realizing that many non-English speaking children wanted to join we established a language school with the international school. Apart from hiring regular teachers, we also have teachers highly skilled in ESL teaching to assist those students that need assistance We seek to produce students with not only a high academic caliber, but also with a high excellence of character.

Our values based curriculum emphasizes four key values: dignity, honor, respect, and integrity. The school colors also remind our students of these values that they will have, by passing through our school on their journey through life. We believe that true education means more than pursuing a certain course of study. It has to do with the whole person, and with the whole period of existence possible to human beings. It is the harmonious development of the physical, the mental, and the spiritual powers.

Great teachers and small classes meaning your child receives the attention they need. I have two kids in the school, both with very different learning styles, the teachers have recognised this and figured out how to effectively ensure both kids learn and retain knowledge. It's a small school and they are selective about who they admit, which means the kids that go there are good influences on each other and containing and controlling things like bullying and bad behaviour are easy (which I've seen as big challenges in other international schools I've seen in Tokyo). There is no playground at the school but the kids go to the local parks for PE, which in a big city is totally understandable. I would highly recommend Axis to anyone, I saw a major difference in my kids engagement and performance at school since they joined over 1.5yrs ago.

They are very limited to what they can provide to their students. I found that my student could not grow socially because the school has about 30 students in the main school in total.

The school is a joke. There are only 3 rooms, yes rooms, not buildings, within a office/mansion building. None of the teachers are credentialed, the principal/owner is an individual that has no idea what he is doing. There are only 3 main teachers and the owner is one of them. He leaves the students unattended in the classroom and watches the kids from his the cameras placed in the class. This is negligence at it's finest. Let's not forget to mention that there is no playground for the kids to play, they have to walk for about 10 minutes crossing busy roads to get to the park. If you dare to put your child in this school, you should ask what credentials the so called principal and teachers have and what makes them a well equipped school.

My 2 kids have been at Axis for the last 3 years and the difference has been amazing. It's not just what they teach, it's how they teach...I couldn't recommend it more highly for people moving to Tokyo!

AXISl teaches students HOW TO LEARN and HAVE FUN while doing it by tapping into each child’s unique strengths and opportunities and building education plans for them. Both my kids six and eight years old were at a different international school for three years prior to joining Axis a semester ago. When they were at their old school, they did not enjoy learning as their old school's teaching style and curriculum was stressing them out. My kids are mixed (half Japanese / half Australian) and English was not their first language, which means that they needed to focus on English fundamentals and grammar (e.g. articles, sentence patterns) before moving to complex topics. To my surprise, their old international school did not put any focus on this which confused them and made them lose confidence. In addition, they used to get assigned around two hours of homework every day which I needed to re-teach them everything (stressful for all as you can imagine). My wife and I decided it was a time to make a change and I tried Axis’ spring school to see how the kids would like it, and both my girls loved it so much, within that two week session of Spring school I saw such a huge improvement in not only their English and math capability but their energy and excitement towards learning. Based on this I decided to make the full time change to Axis for the girls, and I have to say it is the best decision I have made for my kids’ education to this point. The teachers at Axis are amazing with kids and are so attentive to my girl’s areas of opportunity and help them build confidence in this area while also doubling down on improving their strengths. The smaller class sizes and expert level teaching means that each student gets the attention and specific education plan they need, and every day they go out for PE to stay active. It’s so nice for me to see my kids excited to go to school and tell me about what they learnt, I have been hands off with them and I can see a HUGE IMPROVEMENT in their English capabilities and their confidence with reading and speaking with correct grammar. If you are searching for an international school for your child in Japan this is not an easy task. Selecting the right option for them is imperative and you should pay attention to the details and make the right decision. In that regard I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND AXIS as your kids and you will love it. If you are on the fence, please reach out to me and I will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

This review is long overdue but I wanted to make sure to give Axis a 5 star review. Our children were there for 1 yr abroad. I chose this school because it’s a Christian based school that taught academics as well. The curriculum is on par for reading and above average for math compared to the American public school system in the U.S. I had a daughter in 3rd grade at Axis who was behind in Math because 2nd grade in Maryland did not teach multiplication. Since Axis is a small school, they were able to work with Emi one on one to catch up. So when we moved back to the states, she qualified to take advance Math in 4th grade. My son was in 5th grade at Axis. He is shy but he fit in well considering it is a small school. He was able to excel in all subjects that prepared him well for his transition into 6th grade in the states. One thing I didn’t realize was that there were more Japanese nationals in the school so Japanese was not part of the curriculum. The school found a way for my kids to take Japanese lesson after school 2x a week. They still remember their Hiragana today. All in all, it’s a great school with great values instilled in the students and excellent academics that is on par with U.S. standards.

Axis is a great school, they got caring teachers, friend staff, and a nice curriculum. Teaching materials are from America so is all in English. I can see the clear improvement for my son after entering this school. There are different subjects and the studies are using textbooks which is easier for me to know what is studying from time to time. The classes are not big classes so is easier for teachers to teach and offer help to each students. Axis is like a big family, the principal is alway there to help and is a very responsible person. During the lock down, teachers and principal will delivery learning material to our home and collecting it, which is very helpful. Thank you so much for the time and effort! Greatly appreciated!

My daughter has found a second home in Axis. She is always excited to go to school and meet her school mates who are like brothers and sisters to her. The curriculum is at par with the international standard and we like the core values being instilled in the minds of the students.

A great school. The parents are very supportive of the staff. A great curriculum is in place. As a teacher, I have been supported by colleagues and administration and been very pleased with my experience here the past 6 years.
