American International School Yangon (AIS) is a K-12 American-curriculum school in Myanmar. Our mission is to provide students in the Yangon community with a learning environment that fosters the development of 21st century skills. AIS Yangonunderstands that the 21st century student must think critically, communicate eloquently, read effectively, and create imaginatively. American International School Yangon also recognizes that the 21st century student must not only live responsibly in the local Yangon community but also in the wider world. It is our firm belief that by instilling these 21st century values and skills, AIS Yangon students will become the global leaders of tomorrow.
American International School Yangonunderstands that students develop these 21st century academic, personal, and social skills best through active learning and differentiated instruction. Active learning encourages independence and collaboration and maintains engagement in the students. In the classroom, AIS Yangon teachers spend a minimal amount of time “speaking at” students on a topic. Instead, learning centers and group activities are utilized in the daily lessons, where teachers are able to provide differentiated instruction and support so that students of various academic needs can be challenge at their individual academic levels.
American International School Yangonalso believes that students must be challenged every day by a rigorous curriculum in order to grow academically, personally, and socially. For this reason, AIS Yangonhas adopted the American Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for English and math classes and the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) for science classes. AIS believes that these core classes compose the foundation of the curriculum, which is enhanced by social studies, art, PE, and computer classes. After-school activities, filed trips, and community service are also an important part of the students’ life at American International School.
